D esigned by international architect
Joaquin Torres, Casa Hamsayeg
showcases Indo-Islamic architecture
with Moroccan influences. This one of
a kind waterfront villa is located in the exclusive
community of La Punta, in Manzanillo, México.
The literal translation of the word “Hamsayeg”
means “to share the shade around a wall of
love.”
W ith over 31,000 square feet of liv-
ing space, Torres’ vision was creat-
ed to capture the beautiful ocean
and mountaintop views. The large
open spaces allow the outdoors to become part
of the living areas. This distinctive Moorish style
is emphasized by the detailed carved wood, the
rare wall finishes and exclusive fixtures imported
from India and Spain. While aesthetically beau-
tiful, the most current hurricane and earthquake
safety standards were used.
T he six bedroom suites and the master
bedroom wing allow for spectacular
views of Manzanillo’s Santiago Bay.
Additional amenities include a rare en-
trance door from the Palace of Rajasthan in In-
dia, double wooden stairways, approximately
twenty three foot ceilings, a music and sound
room, three informal and formal dining areas,
imported marble bathrooms, manicured gardens,
indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, infinity swimming
pool and water features, two service quarters
and a separate caretaker’s residence.

Joaquin Torres and the A-cero studio focus on the integral development of architectural projects. The work and method of Torres begins with the in-depth study of each po-tential client. All possible problems are studied and the potential resolutions are proposed. During this process, the materials and details are simultane-ously analyzed. In this process, the architecture just appears. The key of their work is to keep the main concept of the idea throughout the entire process. The “what” is as important as the “how.” Their projects have spanned the globe including countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Swit-zerland, Mexico, Hungary, North Africa, United Arab Emirates, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Russia and Vietnam.

Colima's 87 miles of coastline is a tourist mecca with a yearly average of 350 days of sunshine. Facilities for sportfishing and unlimited quiet beaches attract large numbers of Mexican and foreign tourists. Three-quarters of the state is mountainous. Located where the Sierra Madre joins the Southern Sierra Madre, Colima contains four major mountain systems. Sharing the same latitude as Hawaii, the state of Colima has some of the best weather in Mexico. From November through April the daily temperature ranges from 75-82 degrees Fahrenheit, while nights cool off to a comfortable 63-75 de-grees. In May, the climate starts to change--becoming more humid, and build-ing up to the beginning of rainy season in June. After the first rain, which is cel-ebrated among the locals, the hills turn to vibrant greens of a tropical rain for-est. At higher altitudes, there is more rain, and cooler breezes. Residents who live in the hills surrounding Manzanillo enjoy cooler temperatures, and stronger breezes. Those who live on the beach generally have a sea breeze in the after-noon. Overall, Manzanillo has cooler temperatures than Puerto Vallarta, Mazat-lan, Ixtapa or Acapulco. Its close proximity to the Sierra Madres, and its two bays provide better wind currents to keep the area cool and fresh. Because Manzanillo and its bays are tucked underneath a point of land known as Cabo Corrientes, most hurricanes are directed to the north, closer to Puerto Vallarta, or Cabo San Lucas in Baja California.
