Architecture Exams
The major significant feature of the AIEEE that is conducted for the architecture stream is that it
consists of questions to evaluate the knowledge of the students, besides their attitude towards
the values and architecture perspectives.
Nowadays, architecture has become one of the most significant streams in the professional
degrees. The trend has started to boost, say some 5 to 10 years ago, though it exists in practice
right from the ancient times, but recently the craze for architecture has increased tremendously,
as equal to streams like engineering and medicine.
AIEEE
The AIEEE is an all India level entrance examination for both engineering/architecture streams.
Hence, it comprises of separate question patterns and structure for both the streams. The AIEEE
pattern for B. Arch/B. Planning comprises of three important parts, part 1 consists of questions
from mathematics and part 2 consists of aptitude type questions and part3 consists
of engineering drawing questions. It includes questions in testing the students’ attitudes
regarding people, place and environment. This has to be praised, because architecture is all about
the value of thecreative and constructional output, thereby placing the customers and their values
in the first place, because architecture doesn’t deal with bricks and cements, rather it is more to
do with the layout of a place/city/country. It is a 3 hours examination and it is usually conducted
at the end of 12th
standard examination. It is conducted by CBSE in India. It is also said that the
AIEEE is going to get established online form the year 2011 onwards, which means the students
can attend the exam online, rather attending a paper-pencil examination. The method of
implementation is yet to get confirmed by the CBSE.
WHAT IS NATA ? (Max.Mark :200, Min mark: 80)
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the
applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation
skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been
acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e.
Architecture.
www.pmu.edu
Eligibility
Candidates having 50% marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination with mathematics as one of the
subject, only are eligible for admission to B.Arch.Course.
Who should take NATA and Why?
Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in
Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA scores are used by
admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of
Architecture, to provide common measure for comparing the qualifications of applicants for
admission in addition to their scholastic performance in 10+2 or equivalent examination.
Where to appear for NATA?
NATA is offered over major part of admission season at designated Test Centers located at
colleges / schools of architecture in India.
This test comprises of two parts, comprising a paper based drawing test and a computer
basedonline test. Both the tests are evaluated separately and the results are stored in the NATA
server, which is then displayed to the students. Both the tests are considered to be clearly
designed and also executed in the same way.
Drawing Test
The paper based drawing test is conducted for 2 hours and it consists of two questions, each
with two sub questions. The drawing test would be provided with scores, based on the
observation skills of the candidates and their drawing ability, their perspectives
about color, proportion, etc… This drawing test evaluates the following:
Depth of knowledge in the three dimensional and two dimensional drawings.
Students’ ability and capability to draw proportionately and to produce the same as an
effective output.
Creative attitude of the students.
Logical reasoning of the students regarding the scale and proportions and many more.
www.pmu.edu
Aesthetic Sensitivity Test
In this test, the candidates are supposed to answer 40 multiple choice questions, which are based
on the vision to evaluate the mental ability, architectural comprehensive skills, creative
capability, architectural awareness, etc… This test is conducted in an interesting manner,
meaning, if a student provides a correct answer to one question, then the immediate question
would be tough (next difficult level), otherwise it would be vice versa. Thus, the difficulty level
of the questions would be chosen by the computer itself, depending on the performance of the
students and the marks would also be based on the average level of difficult questions that are
asked in the examination and there are no negative markings in this test.

Engineering Exams
The engineering entrance exams are considered, as significant, especially in India, because most
of the students in the country aim for engineering studies, immediately after their 12th
standards.
Engineering Entrance Exams
It would be evitable for anyone, who is watching the television, because people could see the
students in the TV, especially the rank holders would be portraying themselves either as doctors,
or as engineers and the engineering studies would top the list. And India is known for its IITs
and its strong engineering research facilities. Each and every IIT has its own research centre
facilitating most of the engineering developments and infrastructure in the country. Moreover to
ease the engineering admissions in the country, the government of India has established three
entrance exam schemes, such as, AIEEE, JEE and SLEEE. The AIEEE and the JEE are
conducted as a national level entrance exams for engineering admissions and the SLEEE are
conducted as the state level entrance exams. Thus, the initiative done by the government in order
to ease the admission procedures and to guide the students is really appreciable!
All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE)
It comprises of two different types of question papers, one consisting of questions from the
subjects, like, math, and physics, and chemistry. This is an objective type question paper with
equal marks to each three subjects. The second type question paper comprises of questions from
mathematics, engineering drawing and it also consists of aptitude type questions. Thus, the first
type of question paper is meant for B.E. and B.Tech degree admissions and the second type
question paper is meant for the B.Arch and B.Planning degree admissions. The AIEEE would
award the students at national level via a national rank and would also rank the students based
on the state level via a state rank. It is been accepted by many institutions that are offering the
undergraduate engineering and architecture degree courses, majorly including the 30 honorable
National Institutes of Technology (NITs). The 50% of the seats in the NITs would be filled up by
the deserving candidates from the AIEEE entrance examinations. Hence, the candidates who
appeared for the AIEEE exams could apply to many engineering institutions across the country.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)
It is popularly called as the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)
and it is conducted for the engineering admissions in the seventeen IITs in India. The current
question pattern comprises of two objective type question papers, and each of the question papers
consists of questions form subjects like, math, physics, and chemistry. The questions are
designed with an objective to test the comprehensive, reasoning and analytical skills of the
candidates.
State Level Engineering Entrance Examination (SLEEE)
Each state conducts its own entrance examination for the engineering admissions within the
state. Further the standard and quality of the SLEEE also sticks to the AIEEE standards and
www.pmu.edu
procedures. Since, the state level entrance examination is designed and developed according to
the specific state syllabus and curriculum, it adheres to the boundary of syllabus, thus easing the
admission procedures. This further helps the students to concentrate better on their subjects.
