City Specifications • Carpet and pad/cushion must meet the low emission requirements of the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) Green Label Plus Program or California’s Section 01350 specification. • Carpet must not contain polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. • Carpet manufacturer must meet the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) recycling goals. • Vendor must have in place and provide City with a copy of Vendor’s End of Life Product Program with bid submission. This program must include information on reclamation and recycling of existing carpets and for new carpet products pro- vided under the terms and conditions of the CARE agreement. Reclaimed carpet must not be disposed of in landfills or sent for incineration. • Adhesives used in the installation of purchased carpet products cannot exceed the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) limits of 50 grams/liter established by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. • Meet Caliornia Green Building Standars, PartII - Section 5.504.4.4 Minimum Requirements Introduction Carpet Carpet can provide an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable flooring material for offices and other city facilities. Modular (carpet tile) and broadloom (rolled) carpet are installed as part of new construction, remodeling or replacement projects. The city strives to buy carpet that is both attractive and sustainable. The carpet industry has become a leader in sustainability thus making this possible.
