Dear Parents and Carers, Student Safety A letter was sent home earlier in the week encouraging everyone to take extra care as you walk and drive around the school. Most importantly, please keep calm and exercise self- control when parking issues arise. It is essential that all road safety and parking laws are followed. I am aware that due to recent incidents around schools, the police and RTA have increased their patrols to ensure student safety. Thank you for your cooperation. Dance Sport Thank you and congratulations to Ms Newman and Mrs Elmir for organising the afternoon Dance Sport program. This program has involved interested Year 5 students learning ballroom dancing and performing at a regional competition at Homebush. You would have seen a sample of their talents at the concerts held recently. Please see additional article included with this newsletter about this spectacular program. School Security School Security and student safety has been an issue of discussion in P&C meetings for several months. I have organised a few companies to quote on CCT video and possibly electronic security gates to be installed. Please ensure that when entering the school after 9:15 am that you sign in at the office and pick up a Visitors Badge. It is exceptionally important for student safety that we monitor the entry and departure of all school visitors and helpers. Capital Upgrades A new Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) will be installed in Area 2 during October and November. Once completed a very large synthetic games court will be installed under the COLA. Additionally, through the P&C we are applying for grants to install an environment playground space within the school. I have visited some local schools recently and picked up some excellent ideas which I will discuss with the Student Representative Council and P&C. If successful the Environmental Playground installation will commence in Term one 2020. Stage Camps are on next week Next week, we have a large number of our students and teachers attending school camp. Each of these camps have been so well organised and our teachers have volunteered to leave their families for days at a time so your children can have a unique experience, creating wonderful memories. In the past, we have been held up with unpredictable traffic when returning to the school on Friday afternoon. We always keep families up to date on the return times through our Skoolbag App. It is very important that the person collecting your child be subscribed to the Skoolbag App so they know if a delay has occurred. Stage Three Camp- A Very Early Start! STAGE 3 CAMP -Lake Burrendong Camp
Students are to assemble under the COLA on Tuesday morning of 24 September at 5am. They will need
to sit in their bus groups. It is absolutely essential that all students arrive on time as we are departing promptly at 5.30am in order to arrive on time for our expected arrival time of approximately 10:30am. We ask that parents DO NOT park from the office all the way up to the Canteen to allow enough space for the coaches to park. This will ensure that students can stow their luggage and board the buses safely and efficiently. Make sure you have checked the What to Bring note and have packed accordingly - remember NO MOBILE PHONES and pack morning tea for the first day. Students will return to school approximately around 6.30pm on Friday 27 September. Please ensure that all parents are waiting for the students when we arrive back at school. Please DO NOT PARK IN CAMERON STREET ON THE SCHOOL SIDE.

Poetry Corner
4 Pink have been looking at poetry this term and have created some great poems during the term. Can you please publish the following poems in the next newsletter? This week we looked at limericks. Here are our best 2 limericks. There once was a young lad named James He was very good at trying new games. His pants caught on fire, Because he was a liar. And then he burst into fiery flames.
By James and Liam There once was a girl called Maia Who lived in the famous Shire. She did gymnastics there And once saw a bear. As you can tell, she was a very bad liar! By Maia and Bethany.

DanceSport Challenge Gala
This year Carlton Public School has been fortunate enough to be involved in the DanceSport Challenge Program. The DanceSport Challenge Program is open to all Year 5 students from NSW public schools. The DanceSport Challenge Program began in 2006 with just six schools. Since then it has grown immensely, there are now 46 schools from the Metropolitan South and Regional South Directorates participating in the program. Although the medium is ballroom dancing, the program centres around student wellbeing and ensures that all participating students are known, valued and cared for. It promotes respectful relationships through dance, particularly between the genders. During the DanceSport Challenge Program, students participate in an intensive 15-week program to learn 5 ballroom dances; comprising of the Tango, Cha Cha, Jive, Salsa and Samba. 30 students in Year 5 proudly represented Carlton Public School at the DanceSport Challenge Gala last Tuesday night 10 September, held at the Quay Centre Sydney Olympic Park. Team Carlton wowed the judges and audience; dancing the Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa, Jive and Samba under dazzling lights in a sea of colour and movement! A special shoutout to our school finalists, Juliet B. and Rubyn K. N. (Cha Cha), Lauren J. and Larry S. (Tango),
Evangeline K. and Leo M. (Salsa) and Aleksa D. and Daniel L. (Jive) who did our school proud! Under the tough
scrutiny of professional judges, these 8 children went head to head in the competition phase of the evening and
performed with class, energy and sheer joy! Carlton Public School were semi-finalists in all four dances, and were
awarded 2nd place in the Tango, 3rd place in the Cha Cha and 7th place in the Jive. This fantastic effort from our
school finalists, and all our dancers, saw Carlton Public School announced as the 3RD PLACE OVERALL SCHOOL
for 2019, closely missing out on 2nd place by 1 point.
We are immensely proud of the fantastic work that every student put in their performance last Tuesday night. We
would like to acknowledge the talents of our dance tutor, Melinda Hayes, the staff members in the audience to
cheer the students on and all of the families for supporting our school. We extend that thanks to Diana Wolsely
and Farhana Quayum for all that they have done in preparation for a wonderful Gala Evening.
We are so incredibly proud and we are already looking forward to the 2020 DanceSport season!
