how the Board works to meet those ENDS. Members and visitors welcome. Expect to wrap up at 10:40am.

Sundaes on Sunday with the Board of Trustees After the 11am service

Members and visitors are invited to attend a conversation with your trustees on Sunday, February 22 at 12:30pm. We will offer info about our new ENDS (goals) statements and about how the Board is planning its work toward those ENDS. We are offering a 'sweetener' of all the fixings for an old fashioned ice cream sundae. Come ready to share conversation and learn more about what the Board is up to this year.

Non Fiction Book Group - 12:30pm We will discuss Sundown Towns: a Hidden

Dimension of American Racism by James Loewen. The book tells of white-only towns and suburbs, mostly in the North and many in Illinois. People who would like to attend the meeting but do not have time to read Loewen's book are encouraged to check out the author's web page at sundown.afro.illinois.edu and join our discussion.

Hospitality Team Orientation/Training Sessions - March 1 at 1pm, March 15 at

12:30pm and March 29 at 12:30pm

Have you heard about the new plan to expand our Sunday morning welcoming and hospitality program? It is an invitation to include all church members (children too) in the practice of making our congregation radically welcoming. There will be three opportunities (a one hour session offered 3 times) in March to ask questions, get clarity and learn the basics of each Sunday morning role. It's not just about greeting and passing out hymnals! The team roles also include: offering (money) counters, coffee helpers, buying bagels and fruit, audio and visual support (for those who have experience), clean up, and attending the composting/recycling center. There is something for everyone. Every member of the congregation has been assigned a team and team leaders will be contacting you soon to welcome you to their team. The program begins at the end of May so there is plenty of time to learn the ropes. If you are unable to make it on March 1st but would like to learn more, please contact Eileen Wiviott at [email protected] or your team leader.

don't let it end.

During the days between Martin Luther King Day and Valentine's Day we showed LOVE as a community through many acts of justice, compassion and service. More than 70 of us attended the CRS Faith In Action Assembly encouraging legislators to support racial and economic justice through education and prison reform. We bagged up and donated 120 breakfasts for those who receive services through Connections for the Homeless. We learned about Fair Trade, raised $900 for local food pantries on SOUP-er bowl Sunday. We composted, recycled, created, played and spent money with justice and love in mind. And to cap it off, we celebrated with our Valentine's Dance on Friday the 13th. Thank you to all who participated in whatever ways you were able. Hopefully you discovered some ways to keep loving justice rolling for the next 365 days and beyond. Check out the UCE Facebook page to see some pictures from the party and to remember ways you can still participate. #UCE30DaysofLove.

Wednesday Night Soup Kitchens

This spring we host two soup kitchens when our neighbor Beth Emet is celebrating holidays. We welcome about 100 people for dinner, a sack lunch and our best hospitality. Sign-ups at http://ucevanston.org/volunteer-opportunities/ On March 4, we are hosting while Beth Emet celebrates Purim. For this "extra" soup kitchen, the staffing and much of the food will be provided by a Girl Scout troop associated with some UCE members. But, we still need those taco casseroles cooked! Please sign up online now. On April 8, we are hosting while Beth Emet celebrates Passover. We need you for setting up and making lunches, serving, clean-up, and to bring and cook food. Please sign up online now or at the tables in the Sanctuary during March.

UCE Social Action Facebook Group

Connect with UCE Members through the Unitarian Church of Evanston (UCE) Social Action Facebook Group. You can ask to join the group to stay connected to the justice concerns of members and share your own.

We Commit2Respond to climate change!

As Unitarian Universalists we see ourselves as one thread in a single fabric of all existence. We know that our survival is bound up with every other thread of the interdependent web of life. And we know that it will take all of us to stem the tide of climate change and the crisis we are already facing. That's why UCE's Green Sanctuary Team has signed up to endorse a new UU initiative for climate justice. Commit2Respond is about joining forces and amplifying our impact, united across Unitarian Universalism and beyond. Our entire faith movement is mobilizing and we are a key part of it! Joined together in collective action, connected through partnership, we will change the world. Find out more and join at www.commit2respond.org.

"Black Lives Matter" Yard Signs

The Peace and Justice team asks for our support of the national "Are UU Awake" group, which focuses on racial justice in the Unitarian Universalist faith. They are asking us to post visible support for the Black Lives Matter movement. The national group is offering yard signs for about $4 each, but we have to commit to them before February 28. Jackie Seaman will have a sign-up list at the back of the church after the services on Sunday, February 22. The signs are 16'' x 26'' and simply say "Black Lives Matter." If you would like a sign, please sign up this Sunday.
