CFW June 7-11, 2012
Caribbean Fashionweek takes another giant step forward
in 2012, as Pulse redoubles its efforts to take Caribbean

profit, at the centre of world fashion. This initiative
continues to be executed in partnership with Caribbean
stakeholders, including the Caribbean Export
Development Agency, the Caribbean Fashion Industry
Association, Jampro, the Jamaica Tourist Board, various
related Governmental and non-Governmental agencies,
as well as other regional stakeholders and industry
professionals. The event takes place June 7-11 and is
presented and produced by Pulse.

CFW Over The Years
The largest, most far reaching and
strategically important fashion event in
the region, Caribbean Fashionweek will
be presented at the National Indoor
Sports Centre at Independence Park, in
the National Stadium complex. Since
2001, Pulse has developed an event of
a high international standard to
showcase the best of the Caribbean’s
designers, as well as other world
regarded stylists from various parts of
the globe. Approximately 50 designers
from 20 countries participate each
year.
The CFW Business Forum, Exhibition,
superstar concert performances,
supermodels, After Parties, tours and
great experiences will all continue in
2012.
The Event
Since its inception in 2001, Caribbean
Fashionweek has been the main
catalyst for Caribbean fashion industry
development. An ambitious project,
CFW has brought the world of fashion to
the region, as it seeks to focus
international attention on what the
Caribbean has to offer, while, at the
same time, working with stakeholders to
build capacity and generate business
for Caribbean stylists.
In the process CFW designers have
been featured in Vogue, The
Associated Press, The Independent,
Fashion TV Paris, The New York Times, i-
D, The BBC and a host of other media
around the world. The event has
received a number of awards and has
been recognized by no less an entity
than British Vogue, as an important new
development in world fashion.
The challenge remains to effectively
assist our Caribbean designers in their
efforts to build their businesses, so that
they can take full advantage of the
marketing that the event creates, utilize
the experience gained, the
international press generated, the
buyers’ marketplace provided and the
Business Forums presented: in short the
full CFW experience. We continue this
process in 2012.

Caribbean Export Development Agency Initiative – CFW, LFW & The
Olympics
The Caribbean Export Development Agency has launched its Caribbean
fashion programme, starting with London Fashion Week this February. It
continues with Caribbean Fashionweek in June, the Olympics in August
and London Fashionweek once again, in September. Managed by Pulse
and presented by the Caribbean Fashion Industry Association, with
support from Jampro, the London event heralds a dynamic and far-
reaching programme of development for the Caribbean fashion
industry. Its impact on CFW will be significant and will enhance the
experience for the region’s designers.
Designer Buyers Programme
Jampro has committed to a special buyers’ programme for the
fashion industry which will be manifested during CFW. A specific,
targeted programme, to facilitate matchmaking between buyers and
designers is being undertaken by the Jamaican development agency
as a key part of its fashion programme in 2012. Designers should
ensure that they are ready to take advantage of this initiative, coming
prepared to meet buyers and to sell.

Special features for 2012
Mission Catwalk Partnership with CFW
The finals of the new and exciting Fashion TV series, Mission Catwalk will
be an added feature of CFW 2012. Mission Catwalk takes aspiring
fashion designers through a series of challenges with the most
impressive finalists vying for the top spot. Now in its 2nd season, the
show has taken on a regional approach with designers from Barbados,
Belize, Jamaica and Guyana participating. The top 3 designers will
show their collections in front of a live audience in the final showdown
at CFW 2012. Last season’s and the first winner of the competition,
Jamaican Shenna Carby received an excellent response to her debut
collection at CFW 2011.
Canadian Initiative
A Toronto based Canadian initiative (in its infancy), is being
developed by the leading Toronto based media house to bring
winners of a competition organized in association with Pulse, to
Jamaica for CFW. This will likely lead to over one hundred Toronto
natives visiting CFW for the first time.
