Purpose
• Collecting information on operational cargo related accidents and incidents (relevant info, excluding all commercial information to be entered in a database) from seaborne carriers.
• Analysing global operational information on all cargo and container related accidents.
• Establishing areas of concern and trends in order to improve safety in the transport chain.

Objectives Highlighting risks posed by certain cargoes and/or packing
failures in order to improve safety in the liner shipping industry.
This is done by: Analysing the data. Looking for specific incidents which may require
immediate action. Assessing incident trends.

Apparent areas of concern will be addressed to IMO and/or other relevant authorities in order to formulate relevant changes in legislation, recommendations or advice.
This may consist of recommendation of amendments to IMDG Code, including advice on training issues, on the packing and securing of cargo in containers.

DevelopmentThe CINS project intention is also to develop and use a continuous improvement model and knowledge sharing from an operational point of view to enhance the safety of carriage of cargo in the supply chain and reduce the risk to people involved at sea and ashore, assets and the environment – and to share relevant information i.e. IAEA and Fukushima / TEPCO consequences.
