The Centre was set up in 1994 by Winchester City Councillor Susan Glasspool when she was Mayor of Winchester. An independent charity and a limited company, it is managed by twenty six paid staff with help from volunteers and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, some of whom are or were carers. The Centre is one of 144 centres in the UK which were run under the auspices of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, founded by Princess Anne in 1991 to provide representation and support for unpaid carers. This trust has now merged with Crossroads Care and is now known as Carers Trust.
Dear all, Carers week is fast approaching and runs from 11th-15th June 2018. The theme this year is looking at all the ways we can support carers to stay Healthy and Connected. Building communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with health and wellbeing needs of their own. Currently 1 in 8 of us are carers and the aim is to reach out to the thousands of carers that are missing out on advice, information, support and services as well as acknowledging all carers commitment. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Best Wishes Kerry Hearsey MBE
