PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS
• Public – funded by tax dollars
• Private – part of the economy that is not controlled by the government

TYPES OF BUSINESSES
• Individual proprietorships – owned and controlled by one person.
• Partnerships – controlled by two or more people
• Corporations – owners are called shareholders
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of business?
TYPES OF EMPLOYMENT
• Full time – usually 40 hours a week, benefits
• Part time – under 40 hours a week, no benefits
• Contract – work for a specific project for a specific amount of time, when it’s over you work somewhere else.
• Temporary – help out during busy time or to fill in for vacationing employees
• Freelance – self-employed and work for a number of different clients
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
• Entrepreneur – someone who sets up and operates a business
• What are the advantages and disadvantages to being an entrepreneur?
ECONOMIC FACTORS
• By the early 1900’s the economy shifted from agriculture to factory. Today America is primarily a service economy.
• Global Economy – way national economies are linked by trade.
• Downsizing – laying employees off to reduce costs
• Outsourcing – contracting services to an outside company
