Computer Engineering is the combined fields of Information and Communication Technology. This includes computer systems, software engineering and telecommunications systems. All systems that form part of the design, installation, commissioning and management of systems forming part of the Information Super Highway form part of Computer Engineering.

You may choose to become a generalist or a specialist

• A Generalist has broad knowledge and skills in several issues. Someone with many abilities and interests or whose job contain varied duties. A Generalist is a professional whose time and projects demand they learn a variety of disciplines within Civil Engineering. Generalists have the advantage of understanding the intersection between the different disciplines. Generalists are extremely valuable because they can see issues and details from multiple perspectives, bringing a broad view to the project.

• A Specialist on the other hand is devoted to a particular occupation or branch of

study or research. One who’s practice is limited to a particular branch of engineering. A Specialist is a professional who has time, experience and projects to allow him/her to go deep into a discipline. Because he/she can concentrate on one discipline, he/she becomes very knowledgeable and experienced at solving problems that crop up. Specialists are valuable since they know how to tackle the many subtleties that make or break a project.

The economic and social well-being of our country is significantly influenced by the efficient movement of persons, goods and services. This is the purpose of this discipline. To this end, the discipline includes the study of pavement engineering, geometric design, traffic engineering, traffic safety and

transportation planning.

Careers as a ....

civil

At present the research of the discipline is focused on public transport, land use and transport modeling, traffic safety and pavement research.
