Careers Coordinator Job Description Job Title: Careers Coordinator Responsible to: Deputy Head of Curriculum and HR Manager and Support Staff Communications Grade: 5 Role purpose: The post holder will lead a team supporting Northgate Pupil and Students to prepare for further/higher education, training and employment. The post holder will provide careers guidance and advice that is impartial, informed and relevant. Roles and Responsibilities: Curriculum 1. To liaise with teaching staff delivering Careers lessons to ensure content remains up to date, interesting and relevant. 2. To ensure a coherent and innovative pathway of career-related activities is provided to all pupils and students. 3. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of Further and Higher Education and routes to employment and training by attending appropriate professional development courses. 4. To ensure that wall displays within teaching and resource areas reflect the opportunities available to pupils and students and are appealing to the audience. Working with Colleagues 1. Coordinate the work of the Careers team. 2. Assist with the selection, recruitment and induction process for new staff and carry out Performance Management Reviews. 3. Liaise with the HR Manager and Support Staff Communications about any performance concerns and follow advice given. 4. Provide training to colleagues on writing references, giving careers advice and using careers software to support colleagues in writing references. 5. Check and amend UCAS references where necessary to ensure a uniform standard of references. 6. Liaise with relevant colleagues regarding work related learning across the school and events associated with it and actively promote and facilitate arrangements for employers to come into school. Students 1. Create an environment that inspires pupils and students to consider options within the world of work. 2. Talk to groups of pupils and students to promote careers learning and assemblies when appropriate. 3. Oversee the work experience arrangements, to ensure all pupils have access to a placement and the opportunity to review learnings. 4. Arrange opportunities for CV writing and interview preparation and practice. 5. Coordinate a program where Employers, Alumni and other role models can show a variety of different career paths to pupils and students.
