It is well known that the quest for employment after graduation has become more challenging. Although we feel the same pressures as most institutions, our students still fare well in comparison. We do, after all, have graduates with the skills that are most in demand in the United States and the world. Their continued success is due in great part to our excellent Career Services staff that guides Michigan Tech students throughout their time here. Interest inventories, four-year action plans, help with research, résumé and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, and Career Fairs are some of the services provided by the staff. Of course, internships and co-ops can also give students a big advantage toward securing permanent employment. And, thanks to an internship or co-op, students can decide if they truly enjoy the type of work in which they are involved, before making it a career. Students come to Michigan Tech to learn the latest innovations and stretch their knowledge to its greatest potential. Employers realize this, and that is why our students still average five interviews before they graduate. Michigan Tech faculty, staff, and students are surviving the latest challenges, as we always have. We continue to investigate new avenues to ensure that our students continue to create the future.

All December, May, and August graduates are contacted via email, telephone calls, senior meetings, personal visits, academic departments, and the Career Services website.

US News &World Report ranks Michigan Tech in the top tier of national universities and ranks the environmental engineering program number thirteen in the nation. In 2008–09, Tech student-athletes (97) ranked first in the nation as recipients of the Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, which recognizes those with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Princeton Review cites Tech for quality of life,

academics, career preparation, library services, computing, and athletic facilities. Incoming first-year students have a composite ACT of 26.0; the national average is 21.1. Michigan Tech has top-ten national enrollments in mechanical and environmental engineering. Tech’s research expenditures have doubled over the past five years and totaled $55 million in 2008–09.
