Call for Nominations for SIG Secretary
NOMINATIONS / ELECTIONS
Each Section and now SIG (as of 2007) has a council who serves a three year term of office. This includes chair, chair-elect and secretary who serve on one-year terms in each office in succession. One must be a member of ADEA and a member of the Section to be eligible to hold office. To be eligible for election to the councilor position, the person must first have served through the officer positions, including the chair. Officers are elected at the SIG business meeting (“Member’s Forum”) held at the annual session. Officers take office after the conclusion of the Closing of the House of Delegates at the annual session. A person may not hold office in more than one Section or SIG simultaneously.
Duties
SECRETARY
The duties of the secretary are to: 1) record the minutes of the SIG meetings and disseminate them to the mem-bership, 2) submit minutes and current officer contact information to the councilor for submission with the SIG An-nual report, and 3) perform any SIG-related duties requested by the chair.
CHAIR-ELECT
The duties of the chair-elect are to: 1) serve as chair in the absence of the chair; 2) perform any SIG-related duties
requested by the chair; 3) serve as chair of the nominating committee to select candidates for SIG office; and 4)
plan programs for the ADEA Annual Session.
CHAIR
The duties of the chair are to: 1) provide leadership in the coordination of SIG activities; 2) chair SIG meetings; 3)
serve as the program chair, responsible for submitting program proposals to the ADEA Annual Session Planning
Committee for review, and 4) serve as a delegate in the House of Delegates during the annual session.
COUNCILOR
The duties of the councilor are to: 1) provide continuity of leadership for the SIG and mentoring for the new offi-cers, 2) attend the ADEA Annual Session and, if possible, the interim fall meeting of the ADEA Council of Sec-tions, 3) assist in planning, implementing and assessing SIG programs and projects, 4) prepare and submit the SIG annual report after each ADEA annual session to the ADEA staff liaison, and 5) serve as SIG liaison with the Council of Sections Administrative Board.
NEWSLETTER EDITOR
The duties of the newsletter editor are to: 1) develop a newsletter for electronic dissemination of SIG business and activities and 2) work with SIG officers on content.
