1. What is Career College?Career College is a one-year integrative postsecondary certificate program. This entry-level program provides a foundation for transitioning into a career or additional coursework. The students further develop reading, math and computer skills along with participation in a hands-on practicum experience within a specific program of study. Adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

2. Who may enroll in Career College?Students who have been referred by:• High school Exceptional Children’s

teachers• Transition coordinators• Vocational rehabilitation services• OE Enterprises• Academic advisors• Guidance Counselors• Academic & Career Readiness instructors• Social workers/case managersAll students must be at least 18 years old.

3. What job-specific training will Career College offer?Three programs are offered:• Automotive Assistant• Health and Public Services Assistant• Greenhouse/Nursery Assistant

4. When will Career College classes be offered?Classes will meet:Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.Friday, 9 a.m.-12 noon

7. Once accepted to Career College, what are the requirements for registration?• A completed Continuing Education

registration form• Attend an orientation session at ACC for

Career College students.• For the Health and Public Services

Assistant only, documentation of a clear TB skin test

8. What is the cost of Career College?• Registration is $189 and must be paid

before attending the first class. Payments are accepted at the ACC Dillingham Center located at 1304 Plaza Drive, Burlington.

• Transportation is not provided; the student is responsible for his/her own transportation.

9. What is Best Buddies?Best Buddies is a peer mentoring program working in conjunction with Career College. Students are able to participate in social and career development activities/events on Elon University’s campus. Activities occur on the first and third Fridays each month.

10. How is Career College integrative?

• Students are able to participate in college-wide activities and events.

• Each student receives a student ID and a library card.

• Each student has a college e-mail address.

• This is an open enrollment program.

5. Where will Career College classes be held?Classes will be held at Alamance Community College, Carrington-Scott Campus in Graham.

6. Once a referral to Career College is made, what are the requirements?(a) A completed Career College application

form(b) Three sealed letters of reference from

appropriate teachers, school staff members, or agency representatives

(c) A TABE assessment test. To schedule, call ACC’s Disabilitity Services at (336) 506-4130.

(d) A sealed, official high school transcript. Students are responsible for contacting their previous high school to obtain a transcript.

(e) A Signed Code of Conduct statement(f) A completed statement of interest(g) A copy of IEP and most recent

evaluation
