EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN AND PARAMEDIC

Assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and extricate trapped individuals.

Transport injured or sick people to medical facilities and treat them on the way.

Observe, record and report the patient’s condition to physicians.

Immobilize patients for placement in the ambulance and stretcher.

Use skills such as critical thinking, active listening and science to assess a situation and administer care as quickly as possible.

Use tools such as stretchers, oxygen masks, spine boards and other medical accessories to treat patients in a pre-hospital setting.

Reaction

I feel this career is a match for me because I want to work in settings that deal with non-stop intensity and are always pushing me to do better. I have an interest in Emergency Medicine and like to be in the middle of chaotic situations. I feel I possess the skills needed for this test such as critical thinking, coordination and social perceptiveness.

VETERINARIAN Diagnose and treat animals with injuries.

Research diseases and injuries of animals.

Conduct research and development, inspect livestock, or care for pets and companion animals.

Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.

Work in a medical setting such as animal hospitals.

Reaction

I feel this career is a match because I love animals and would like to work in some type of medical setting. I feel that it would be a rewarding job to help animals that cannot help themselves. My top work value is achievement and I feel that this job suits this value well because after helping someone else I feel it would give me a sense of achievement.

Pharmacy Technician • Receive written prescription or refill requests.

• Verify that information is complete and accurate.

• Establish and maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.

• Work in a pharmacy in a hospital or any medical clinic.

ReactionI feel this career is a match because it involves one of the skills that I feel I possess which is organization. This career would reflect my Birkman Test results which was being very organized and structured. I feel I would be able to do the many tasks that come with this job. I enjoy clerical tasks and would like to be in this type of controlled environment.

Health Care Administrator • Oversee the activities of clinical departments such as nursing or surgery.

• Direct the operations of non-health areas such as personnel, finance and public relations.

• Enforce policies and procedures for the departments and coordinate events as a manager.

• Two years in one is developing mentorships and they prepare themselves for a higher position by taking more opportunities.

• Five years into this career a person is already being promoted to executive. The person may go back to school and reevaluate their career.

onI feel this career is a match because it involves working in a controlled environment and dealing with clerical work that I enjoy doing. I feel my skills of organization and preparedness would be a good fit in this career. My ideal working environment would be a controlled, structured setting which this career fits.

Geneticist Put together the puzzles of DNA and heredity and unlock the secrets to the

make-up of life.

They spend long hours studying and examining DNA.

Two years into this career the days are very long and the tasks repeat but the workers enjoy working every day. Up and coming geneticists learn the ropes of the research.

Five years into this career, geneticists practically live in the lab. They are able to do their own research and work in development.

Ten years into this career, one is directing research projects, lecturing at schools and consulting with pharmaceutical companies.

Reaction

I feel this career is a match because I have an interest in heredity and DNA. I can stay focused for long periods of time which is needed for this career. I would like to work in a medical setting which is controlled and organized which a laboratory is.

SURGEON Operate on patients to correct deformities, injuries and restore patients

functions.

Examine patient to obtain information on medical condition and surgical risk.

Use the knowledge of medicine, biology and education and training to help fix an injury on a patient.

The skills needed for this career are complex problem solving, critical thinking and social perceptiveness.

Have the abilities of problem sensitivity, manual dexterity and selective awareness.

ReactionI feel this career is a match because it involves the medical field

which I have an interest in. I have attention to detail and am very organized which is needed as a surgeon. I am very coordinated and can control myself in order to fix a problem.
