Reading lists, photocopies and assignments are provided for students ahead of each weekend Fees: • UK & EU (2009/2010) £3,500 payable in three installments • International tuition fees (2009/2010) £5,250 payable in three installments Entry requirements: • UK Honours Degree at second class honours or above, or a qualification recognised by the University at equivalent • English language requirement (for those whose first language is not English) is 6.5 in IELTS or 580 in TOEFL or the equivalent When to apply: • Early application is strongly advised, normally well before the end of July Programme: • The degree, a response to the practical need for scholarly study of church law, provides academic training, but with a substantial emphasis on practical application. The degree is research-led and has attracted students of the highest quality, including secular and ecclesiastical judges, university academics, barristers, solicitors and clergy from both the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. Structure: • You study four modules over two years • Each module is taught over two residential weekends • The residential weekends are usually held in September, November, March and June of each year Assessment: • A distinctive feature of this degree is that there are usually no written examinations • You complete four 5,000 word essays and a 15,000 word dissertation Teaching: • The degree is research led with emphasis given to the practical effect of canon law • The course is directed by Professor Norman Doe. The teaching is delivered by Professor Doe, other members of staff at Cardiff Law School and the Fellows and Associates of Cardiff’s prestigious Centre for Law and Religion • Cardiff is ranked the 7th best Law School in the UK for the quality of its research in the latest official Research Assessment Exercise. It is also at the forefront of research in this field, being home to the Centre for Law and Religion, the Interfaith Legal Advisers Network, the Colloquium of Anglican and Roman Catholic Canon Lawyers and the Law and Religion Scholars Network The first degree course of its type in the United Kingdom, the LLM (Canon Law) provides an opportunity for postgraduate study in the canon law of the churches of the Worldwide Anglican Communion, particularly that of the Church of England, and the Roman Catholic Church and the law of the State applicable to these churches.
