Dear student
Welcome to CAPS at London College of Fashion.
CAPS stands for Compact Agreement for Progression Scheme. The aim of CAPS is to support students from our partner colleges to make a successful application to London College of Fashion. To take part in the CAPS you must first complete a confidential form so that we can assess your suitability for the scheme.
The CAPS will offer you a whole series of workshops, summer courses and advice sessions on preparing your portfolio. If you are serious about applying to LCF and take part in all the activities, the CAPS will guarantee you an interview for your chosen course and greatly improve your chances of gaining a place.
CAPS2 is our scheme for students who are interested in applying to one of LCF’s non design courses such as fashion journalism or fashion business. It offers students the same benefits as CAPS, but with different activities.
We hope that you will make the most of everything the CAPS has to offer and we will be on hand to support and guide you along the way.
Best wishes,
Kate Hill CAPS Progression Manager [email protected] 0207 514 7908

Far too often if you ask a student interested in fashion what they
want to study at HE they will say menswear or womenswear. There
are a whole range of courses out there and lots of students don’t put
enough research and time into considering where their strengths and
interests lie before applying to university to study fashion.
Each course we offer has its own course page on our website.
You can search for courses using the course search function. We
recommend you start researching and learning about what LCF offers
as early as possible, the more research you do the more likely you are
to succeed.
On each course page you can read a course overview, detailed unit
information, read and watch interviews with students and staff and look
at student work.
Throughout the year CAPS students will get lots of opportunities to
talk through course options with different LCF staff but start your own
research as soon as you can.

LCF Student Journeys
We asked a few LCF students who came through CAPS to share their experiences with you.
Q: Why apply through CAPS?The portfolio day was very useful and helped me understand what I needed to do for interview day. It was also really good to see other students’ work and this really inspired me.
Q: Any tips for students applying through CAPS?Always be confident and positive and make sure you prepare for the interview and you can talk about the subject.
Edyta SlabonskaBA (Hons)Cordwainers Fashion Accessories: Product Design and Development
Q: Describe a typical day at LCF.My course is based in Golden Lane, a lovely location close to Old Street and the Barbican. One of my favourite lessons is pattern development. After the explanation from the lecturer about construction methods we create our own patterns and samples from leather. It is very useful and helps you improve your manual and technical skills.
Q: What 3 tips would you give for surviving university?1) Never give up.2) Organise your time.3) Push your limits.

Q: Any tips for students applying through CAPS?Go to all the workshops and don’t take it easy and waste your time just because you got in touch with LCF through CAPS. Make the most of it!

Q: Why apply through CAPS?LCF has a high volume of applications and if you go through CAPS you are guaranteed an interview which is an amazing opportunity. Through the scheme you can take advantage of summer schools and portfolio advice. They will look at your work and give you advice on what you need to do.
Q: Any tips for students applying through CAPS?Attend all the CAPS sessions and listen to all the advice, you have got to take it seriously. I applied to study knitwear and I made sure that I had a portfolio that had plenty of knit detail and experimentation. I was asked at the interview why I wanted to do that course and my plans. I did all my research so I was able to answer the questions thoroughly and show my enthusiasm for the subject.

Q: Which site is your course based? Describe a typical dayat LCF.I am based mainly at Lime Grove where I spend a lot of time in the knit room and I go to pattern cutting classes at Curtain Road. I like going to the site at Oxford Circus for lectures because I can then go straight to the library and do my research there.
Q: Tips for surviving university?Work hard and be active and fully interact in all the activities your course sets for you as they will be useful.

Q: Why apply through CAPS?I was nervous about applying to university. The CAPS scheme allowed me to get advice on my portfolio prior to interview and this made the process a lot easier. The advice gave me more confidence. The help from CAPS continued when I secured my place and I got extra information to help with university life, I would have found it more challenging to get into LCF if I didn’t have all this.
Q: Any tips for students applying through CAPS?Research is the key! Really think about the course that will suit you best, visit the open days and ask questions. CAPS offers lots of help and advice so don’t ignore it. Find ways to make yourself stand out from other applications and go the extra mile to get noticed. Try and think out of the box and demonstrate the processes you go through and your willingness to experiment.
Q: What did you do after your BA?I graduated this summer and I am currently working at an independent art organisation (CAPS gave me support to secure the placement). I mainly do research and administration, in the next few weeks I will be working pop
LCF Graduate Story
Keleisi AnimBA(Hons) Fashion Illustration
up art shop in Mayfair which I am looking forward to. I also work part time at a retail store and in my own time I work on my illustration and I am planning what to do next with it. Q: Any survival tips for students applying to uni? Find your own style, you cannot please all tutors all the time but you can challenge your ability and skill by constantly working hard and developing that style.
Use all the resources, LCF has an amazing library for example, you are paying for your time there so make the most of it.
If you are like me and leave things to the last minute, try to find ways manage your time more effectively.
