CAPMT DISTRICT 1 NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2014 www.CAPMT1.org PAGE 1 A MESSAGE FROM OUR DISTRICT COORDINATOR Dear Members, Thank you all for coming out to our October meeting with Dr. Deborah How’s Music Development Program workshop. It was refreshing to go over all of the information that she demonstrated and gave to us. Also, Fresas Balistreri’s support for setting up this workshop was greatly appreciated. In October we had several Festivals: Fall Performance Contest, Concerto Competition, Ensemble Auditions, and Fall Pop Festival. All were extremely successful for District 1, and we raised more money than we had expected. Many thanks to all of the Event Chairs: Luyan Guo, Sally & Tim Sumner, and Tim Broadway. Students and parents were great, along with our team of evaluators: Susan Fee, Myhang Huynh, and Tavner Delcamp. Rowena Asuncion and I also did some substitute evaluations to keep costs low. Unfortunately, we had many challenges with the applications on the state website, yet we were still able to enter many students through the online application. Many thanks to Rowena for overseeing all teachers’ concerns and communications to help make it happen. I definitely worked hard to raise your concerns to the State Board but unfortunately encountered a very strong defensive posture. However, I am sure it will improve in the long run and be much more efficient by next year. A MESSAGE FROM OUR DISTRICT COORDINATOR(continued from pg. 1)
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 4 at Bertrand’s Music at 10 am. I will discuss the state meeting updates and to tell you some important issues with FTC rules that we have to go over, as well as upcoming convention news, among other topics. All board members, please come out to make some important decisions for the year!
We have Piano Auditions and Duet Festival coming soon on November 1, and then the Honors Auditions & Contemporary Music Festival on November 22. We are a musically very busy District and I am very proud to serve our San Diego & Imperial County member-teachers as District Coordinator.
Thank you’s to Fresas for accepting the role of membership chair, Myhang for the Duet Festival Chair, and Tavner and Yukiko Mitchell for co-chairing the Spring Festival. I am still looking for a Scholarship Chair and VP #2 (Publicity Chair).
Please come out and support each other at the November Meeting!
Sincerely,Young RobbinsDistrict 1 Coordinator
