A Global Research Network of Women Workshop Purpose
• To review current work and emergent gaps in gender and climate change research
• To generate new ideas and potential solutions to advance gender and climate change research.
• To establish research teams around strategic priorities; explore the options for implementation of the research areas chosen and identify the impact of these research projects on stakeholders
• To create action plans for implementing the research projects.
A Global Research Network of Women Workshop Outcomes
• Create a set of Research Priorities for Gender, Climate Change and Sustainability Research.
• Establish Global Research Teams of Women Scholars
• Action plans for implementation and coordination of priorities for the next three years.

WORKSHOP OUTCOMES
Overall Research Ideas
& Identifiable Priorities
|
• Differential resource access both as limits and opportunities and access to different resources (SS, GB, BB, EBA, ESW)
• Cultural frames & how they affect risk perception, adaptation, mitigation, etc.
• Demographic dist. & exposure to climate change events.
• Gender issues in industrialized countries leg: consumption patterns (FMD, JCP)
• Intersections of gender, culture, ethnicity, class, etc.
• Health • How CC & other issues (violence against
women) impact livelihoods (KN)
• Are different groups more vulnerable to uncertainty
• Literacy rates of women of color
• Women & energy, access to technologies
• How CC accelerates finer forms of discrimination
• Risks are these different for different groups
- Perceptions of risks (MZ)
• Gender & decision making re: mitigation strategies across scales (KH, VV)
- Sexuality, climate change, social movements (access to services)
Multiple lenses, more context, quantitative and qualitative Transatlantic, different understanding
1. Stockpiles where information on gender issues gets into unfccc, ipcc? (low hanging fruit) • Lit/policy review
- Evidence
2. REDD +, rural communities & women
(BB, IC, RV, GB, VV) • Understanding from different countries • What data do parties require to consider gender
3. How to create financial mechanisms to get down to the community
• Accessibility • Eco + Technologies stoves, etc. (EBA) • Poverty belts around cities • How do they affect women, are they sufficiently consulted
4. Disaster resilience of community – lots that women are doing
• Learning from each other • Livelihood options, different • Real strategies that women use to adapt spectrum (MZ, EBA) • Household level & policy level, communities case studies

Sustainable Energy
Research Ideas
Online Space – Community of people
• Interested in gender, sustainable Energy
• Posting, monitoring, Gender CC website
• Lit search on this issue
• Resources project development
• Look at areas already attracting women
- Where they are less represented
- Find ”critical mass”
o Users, researchers, engineers
o Women’s initiatives Co-ops
• Look into energy decision making, barriers to women in sustainable energy
• Funds to implement work demonstration project
• Policy framework, market research for all energy types
Priorities (No particular order) • Migration & Food Security • Sustainable Energy (KH, IC) • Physical Context (on rural and urban ) and also policies • Traditional Knowledge on adaptation and mitigation • Energy /emissions & gender segregated data (on gender energy)
Ideas (No particular order)
• Sustainable Energy (gender)
• Research on Vulnerability on women and men • Interaction or Social Context and government
• Physical Context and also policies • National Policies – Building a bridge between gender issues • Building Deliverance on CC • Traditional knowledge on adaptation and mitigation
• Migration & food security • Emerging new issues eg. Bio-fuels • International linkages • Comparative studies (IC) • Energy/Emission & Gender Segregated Data
(KN, JCP, FMD)
(RURAL, URBAN)
(ESW, GW, EBA, SS )

Action Plan
International Framework for REDD+ after COP16
1) Scope & Scale 2) Research partners
I. Differential impacts of Redd+ & among countries & *global view
II. REDD+ & Policies: Access & Management at a national level *scaling up
III. Differential impacts of REDD+ & on local communities based on a socioeconomic bases *Comparative studies Parameters of model *Access to ecosystem services Resources *Tie to traditional knowledge, land rights, and access *Biodiversity
1. Gender segregated energy uses. 2. Analyze how l.k. helps LCD 3. Analysis on gender segregated emission data in annexing least developed and basic
countries. 4. Differentiated impacts by policies 5. Different solutions by men and women on mitigation $ LCD. Group Members 1. Maira Zahur 2. Sharmind 3. Enice Stella 4. Elizabeth 5. Marion 6. Sonia 7. Gloria

Women’s Coping Mechanisms
Action Plan Differential access to resources of women and the latter’s coping mechanisms opportunities in the context of cc
A. Initial Scope: Philippines Research network /resources: Gender caucus of national climate change coalitions : Universities: UP, Miriam Steps: - Formation of a core group (household)
• Focus group discussion and immersion in selected communities in three major island groups, with the following considerations:
- Further on the framework: review of related literature - Further Scope: Thailand???
