ABOUT US

In 2009 Adrian & Dionne Connolly established an engineering business that serviced Cloncurry and

the surrounding area. This small one man mobile welding business quickly grew to a 17 man

Boilermaking team with associated labourers, apprentices and trades assistants that serviced large

Mine Operations around Cloncurry and the North West region of Queensland.

When the demand for labour across the region became a necessity, a Labour hire arm was added to

the business. The Labour Hire division of Curry Contracting also experienced growth and success and

superseded the Engineering division of the business.

In 2016 it became apparent that for local people in regional communities to significantly benefit

from any new investment or development in the Western areas of Queensland, Local People with

Local Knowledge would be required and the Curry Contracting Labour Hire arm evolved into

Western Labour Hire Pty Ltd.

Western Labour Hire has successfully established partnerships with other Local Businesses,

Traditional Owners and a Globally recognised Mining Contractor because of our ability to deliver a

quality service that combines industry and local knowledge with the needs of both the client and the

local community. It is through these partnerships the Western Labour Hire have the capability to

tender/deliver on Mining, Civil and Construction project work.

Western Labour Hire Pty Ltd is proudly indigenous owned and has a workforce to suit the needs of

all clients from across Australia.

While trading as Curry Contracting, Western Labour Hire Pty Ltd were recognised in the Region and

the State as being “Best in Business” for various categories including but not limited to, Workplace of

HOW WE WORK

1. POSITION BRIEF

We work with relevant stakeholders to accurately identify the skills, experience, attitude and

competencies required to be successful in the role. This also includes information on rosters, pay and

working conditions to enable a complete job profile to be prepared.

2. SOURCING OF CANDIDATES

Having established the job and person specification, we actively source suitable candidates using a

variety of methods and mediums, including but not limited to: our candidate database, newspaper and

online advertising, candidate referrals and affiliated job service providers and training organisations.

3. INTERVIEWS AND SCREENING

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an in depth face to face interview to further expand on their

written application and allow a detailed assessment of presentation, attitude and competencies to be

collated.

4. PRE-EMPLOYMENT

Suitable applicants are subjected to rigorous reference checking with previous employers. Questions are

developed to specifically target the confirmation of information related to the competencies required in

the role. Verification of qualifications, licences, tickets and any other competencies are completed to

ensure validity.

5. CLIENT INTERVIEWS

Selected candidates are presented to the client for further evaluation and screening (if necessary). At

this point the candidate is provided with relevant background information on the role, company, job

requirements and the expected outcomes to allow them to proceed in their own and the client’s best

interests.

6. OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT

After confirmation from the Client of the successful candidate our staff prepare offers of employment

and organise for the completion of all necessary pre-employment medicals, drug & alcohol testing, site

inductions and issue all relevant PPE.

7. FOLLOW UP

We work closely with both the Client and Candidate throughout the term of engagement to ensure the

expectations of the host employer and the candidate are maintained at all times, taking a proactive

approach to addressing any identified issues and implementing support systems/structures if necessary.

We completed the Mount Colin project in the beginning of 2014 (trading as a division of Curry

Contracting) where we were engaged to provide a labour hire service consisting of boilermakers,

machinery operators (including production excavator operators), couriers and personnel

transportation services. See reference on page 13

The boilermakers carried out on site welding repairs and maintenance for CopperChem’s fleet.

This project had a 10 month duration and a value of $2 million plus. This project also provided us

with the opportunity to employ and train local people, whilst delivering a quality service to our

Client.

Western Labour Hire commenced providing a labour hire service to Glencore in September 2014,

this contract allows for the provision of a range of labour including but not limited to:

Great Australia Operations

To Whom It May Concern,

Western Labour Hire (formerly Curry Contracting) has delivered mining and associated services to the Mt Colin Mine Site for CopperChem Limited over the 12 month life of the project. This has been an approach between the parties to facilitate local Indigenous and non-indigenous employment opportunities within the Cloncurry and Mount Isa area.

The services delivered included:

Boilermaking on heavy fleet repairs and general works;

A personnel transportation service (bus drivers) which also delivered equipment to the site.

Coupled to mining services, Western Labour Hire provided multi-skilled equipment operators to the mining group. The personnel worked with the permanent CopperChem staff on daily mining activities.

Western Labour Hire were able to provide short term personnel when requested at the project.

Western Labour Hire were responsive to the changing requirements at the site and delivered quality services. The engagement of services was cost competitive to other alternates on both labour hire and services.

Personnel completed work under the CopperChem SHEMS and were required to maintain safety standards. During the project life a number of the personnel developed in their understanding on mine safety.

Unfortunately the project has ceased open pit operations and is transitioning into assessment of an underground mine development. This involves entering a short period of care and maintenance with most of the Western Labour Hire’s services ceasing, apart from transport drivers.

The two groups collaborated on changing approaches at the mine over a number of months through to closure and worked together on a number of matters to achieve operational targets.
