What is CANZUK freedom of movement?

CANZUK freedom of movement would grant citizens of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and theUnited Kingdom (the “CANZUK” countries) the freedom to live, work, study and travel in each ofthese countries, without the requirement of visas or work permits.

International polling within these countries shows that a vast majority of citizens support CANZUKfreedom of movement:

CANZUK freedom of movement:

could be implemented with the accession of Canada and the UK to theTrans-Tasman Travel Agreement which already exists between Australia andNew Zealand;

could easily be negotiated as part of upcoming trade negotiations following the UnitedKingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.

What we propose

The governments of Australia and New Zealand negotiate an accessionagreement for Canada and the United Kingdom to join theTrans-Tasman Travel Agreement;

Once implemented, free movement rights only apply to those with validCanadian, Australian, New Zealand and British passports;

Travel rights be restricted for those with serious criminal convictions andmajor health conditions, as per the current arrangements between Australiaand New Zealand;

CANZUK citizens have permission to undertake any form of employment intheir host country, with no restrictions regarding sponsorship applications orwork permits;

Spousal, work, study, travel and employment visas will not apply to Canadian,Australian, New Zealand or British citizens when residing within the CANZUKcountries;

CANZUK citizens will not be eligible for social-welfare payments (such asunemployment benefits or disability benefits) until 4 years from the date ofarrival in their host country.
