Load Paper

Beore loading paper, check the paper is the right type. I you load inappropriate paper

repeatedly, this may cause paper jams.

Paper such as Legal, Letter, Statement, Executive, and envelopes can be used. For details

about the available paper or precautions, see [Basic Operation] [Loading paper] in

the e-Manual.

To prevent paper jams, do not use any o the ollowing:

Wrinkled or creased paper

Curled or rolled paper

Torn paper

Damp paper

Paper printed with a thermal transer printer(Do not copy on the reverse side.)

This section describes how to load letter paper in the Paper Cassette. When loadingenvelopes or paper with a letterhead, see Loading Envelopes or Paper with a Letterhead(p.22).

1Open the ront cover and the lower ront cover.

2 Spread the paper guides a little wider than the paper size.

3 Gently load the paper into the paper cassette with the print side ace up,until the edge o the paper stack meets the back o the paper cassette.

Make sure that the paper stack does not exceed the load limit guides (A).

Switch to the Quiet Mode

You can switch to and cancel the Quiet mode, by pressing [ ] (Quiet Mode).

By deault, the Quiet mode is set to . To change this setting to ,and speciy the time to switch to the Quiet mode automatically, press[ ] (Menu) ,and then speciy a time.

The Quiet mode only reduces noise that occurs while the machine isperorming jobs.

Switch to the Sleep Mode

You can switch to and cancel the Sleep mode, by pressing [ ] (Energy Saver).

When the Processing/Data indicator is lit or blinking, the machine will not enter theSleep mode, because an operation is in progress or an error has occurred.

By deault, the machine automatically enters the Sleep mode i you do notperorm any unctions or 5 minutes. To change this setting, press [ ](Menu) , and then speciy atime.

Use the Toner Saver Mode

You can set whether or not to conserve toner when copying. When using the Toner Savermode, the output may not be clear, as subtle details, such as thin lines and light colors, maynot be clearly reproduced.

Make Double-Sided Copies

You can make double-sided copies rom single-sided documents. When using the D560,you can also make double-sided or single-sided copies rom double-sided documents.

To make double-sided copies rom single-sided documents, place the documents in

I you use the scanner driver window (ScanGear MF Window), you can use various eaturesand scan only the necessary part with the preview unction.

4 From your computer, double-click the [Canon MF Toolbox 4.9] icon.

5 When the MF Toolbox appears, click the desired scan mode button. You may not use the ScanGear MF when using the [OCR] mode.

6 When the scan setting window appears, select the [Display the ScannerDriver] check box, and then click [Start].

Clean the Machine

Clean the exterior and interior o the machine, eeder, and the fxing unit periodically.

Cleaning the Exterior and Interior

Clean the exterior and interior o the machine to prevent toner powder and paper dustrom accumulating inside.

IMPORTANTIMPORTANT

For saety, be sure to turn OFF the machine and disconnect all cables romthe machine beore cleaning the machine. When you fnish cleaning themachine, wait or it to dry completely beore reconnecting the power cord,and then turn ON the power.

Cleaning the Exterior

1 Turn OFF the machine and disconnect all the cables rom the machine.

2 Remove any documents rom the platen glass or eeder.

3 Clean the exterior o the machine and ventilation slots with a sot, wellwrung-out cloth dampened with water or a mild detergent that has been

diluted with water.

4 Wait or the printer to dry completely.

5 Reconnect all the cables, and then turn ON the power.

Check and Replace Toner Cartridges

Toner cartridges are consumable products. When the toner has almost run out, streaks mayappear on printed pages. Replace the toner cartridge i necessary.

I the print result is not improved, replace the tonercartridge (p.56).

Gently shake the toner cartridge 5-6 times toevenly distribute the toner (p.55).

Conserving the Toner to Extend the Lie oToner Cartridges

I you redistribute the toner, you may be able to print or some time until the toner runs out.

1 Lit the scanning platorm, open the toner cover, and then remove thetoner cartridge.

2 Gently shake the toner cartridge 5-6 times to evenly distribute the toner.

CAUTION

I toner gets on yourhands or clothing, washthem immediately withcold water. Do not washwith warm water, as itsets the toner and makes

it impossible to removethe toner stains.

Replacing the Toner Cartridge

You can purchase replacement toner cartridges rom your local authorized Canon dealer.

Supported genuine Canon toner cartridge:

Canon Cartridge 128 Starter

1 Open the operation panel and the toner cover, and then remove thetoner cartridge.

2Prepare a new toner cartridge.

Store the protective bag. It is required when you remove the toner cartridge orprinter maintenance or other purposes.

Shake the toner cartridge 5-6times to evenly distribute thetoner.

Place the toner cartridge on aat surace, remove the tab, and

careully pull the sealing tapecompletely out (20 (50 cm)).

IMPORTANTIMPORTANT

When pulling out the sealing tape:

Do not pull the sealing tape at an angle or up and down. I the tapebreaks, it may not be pulled out completely.

Even i the sealing tape stops at midpoint, pull it out o the tonercartridge completely.

I any tape remains in the toner cartridge, this may result in poorprint quality.

Dispose o the packing materials according to local regulations.



WARNING

Do not dispose o a used toner cartridge in open ames.

This may cause the toner remaining inside the cartridge to ignite, resulting in burnsor a fre.

When cleaning up spilled or scattered toner:

I you accidentally spill or scatter toner, careully gather the toner particles togetheror wipe them up with a sot, damp cloth in a way that prevents inhalation.Never use a vacuum cleaner to clean up spilled toner. Doing so may cause amalunction in the vacuum cleaner, or result in a dust explosion due to staticdischarge.

CAUTION

I you get toner on your hands or clothing:

Wash them immediately with cold water. Washing with warm water sets the toner,making it impossible to remove the toner stains.

Do not allow the toner to scatter.

Do not pull out the sealing tape orceully or stop beore it is removed, as thismay cause toner to spill out. I toner gets into your eyes or mouth, ush themimmediately with cold water and immediately consult a physician.

Clear Jams

When appears on the display, a paper jam has occurred in the eeder orinside the machine. To remove the jammed document or paper, ollow the instructions onthe display.

When removing jammed documents or paper:

I paper is jammed, remove it careully so that no pieces o paper remain inside themachine according to the displayed message. Also, do not put your hand in anarea other than indicated areas, as this may result in personal injuries or burns.

Q Can I use the scan unction when using a machine and drivers that are shared byanother person?A No, you may not use the scan unction when sharing drivers that are installed to

another computer. To use the scan unction, install the MF Drivers on your computer.

You can use the supplied user sotware CD-ROM or download the drivers rom the o cial CanonWeb site (http://www.usa.canon.com).

precious natural resources by utilizing

remanuacture new cartridges which, atthe same time, keeps the environment

cleaner by reducing landfll waste.

The Canon Cartridge Recycling Program ulflls the frst initiative

o Canons Clean Earth Campaign, which supports our critical

The remaining Clean Earth initiatives are supported in the

U.S. through sponsorships o the National Park Foundation, the

The Nature Conservancy o Canada.

Since its inception, The Canon Cartridge Recycling Program has

collected huge amount o cartridges that otherwise would havebeen discarded into landflls or similar acilities.

Instead, this rapidly growing program returns used cartridges to

the manuacturing process, thus conserving an array o resources.

cartridge is o no urther use, simply ollow the instructions

Repackage the empty cartridge utilizing the wrapper and pulp

mould end-blocks rom the new cartridges box.

ship cartridges.

Place as many cartridges as possible into one box.

Installation

WARNING

Do not install the machine near ammable substances, such as

alcohol-based products or paint thinners. I these substances

come into contact with the electrical parts inside the machine,

they could ignite these substances and cause a fre or increase

your risk o electric shock. Do not place necklaces and other metal objects or containers

flled with liquid on the machine. I oreign substances come

power to the machine immediately and contact your local

Canon dealer.

CAUTION

Do not install the machine in the ollowing locations. Doing so

Unstable location

A location subject to excessive vibrations

A location that blocks the ventilation slots (too close to walls,bed, shaggy rug, and other similar objects)

A damp or dusty location

A location exposed to direct sunlight or an outside place

A location subject to high temperatures

A location with poor ventilation

Although ozone is produced by this machine when it is working,

the amount is too low to have any aect on the human body.

However, i you intend to use the machine or long periods o

time, ensure that the installation location is well ventilated.

Power Supply

WARNING

Do not use power cords other than the one provided, as this can

Please contact an authorized Canon dealer i the machine

makes an unusual noise, emits an unusual smell, or emits smoke

or excessive heat. Continued use may result in a fre or electric

shock.

Do not use ammable sprays near the machine. I ammable

substances come into contact with electrical parts inside the

machine, this may result in a fre or electric shock.

CAUTION

For your saety, please unplug the power cord i the machine

will not be used or a long period o time.

Use caution when opening and closing covers to avoid injury to

your hands.

Keep hands and clothing away rom the rollers in the output

area. I the rollers catch your hands or clothing, this may result in

personal injury.

The inside o the machine and the output slot is very hot during

and immediately ater use. Avoid contact with these areas to

prevent burns. Also, printed paper may be hot immediately ater

being output, so use caution when handling it. Failure to do so

may result in burns.

Maintenance and Inspections

WARNING

Turn OFF the machine and unplug the power cord rom the

outlet beore cleaning. Failure to do so may result in a fre or an

electric shock

Unplug the power plug rom the power outlet periodically and

clean the area around the base o the power plugs metal pinsand the power outlet with a dry cloth to remove dust and grime.

When damp, accumulated dust may cause short circuiting or

fres.

Use a damp, well wrung-out cloth to clean the machine.

Dampen cleaning cloths with water only. Do not use alcohol,

benzenes, paint thinners, or other ammable substances. I

these substances come into contact with electrical parts inside

the machine, this may result in a fre or electric shock.

Check the power cord and plug regularly or damage. Check

the machine or rust, dents, scratches, cracks, or excessive heat

generation. Use o poorly-maintained equipment may result in a

fre or electric shock.

Consumables

WARNING

Do not dispose o used toner cartridges in open ames. This

may cause an ignition, and result in burns or a fre.

I you accidentally spill or scatter toner, careully wipe up the

loose toner with a damp, sot cloth and avoid inhaling any toner

dust. Never use a vacuum cleaner to clean up loose toner. Doing

so may cause a malunction in the vacuum cleaner or result in a

dust explosion due to static discharge.

CAUTION Keep the toner cartridges and other consumables out o the

reach o small children. I toner is ingested, consult a physician

or poison control center immediately.

Do not attempt to disassemble the toner cartridge. The toner

may scatter and get into your eyes or mouth. I toner gets into

your eyes or mouth, wash them immediately with cold water

and immediately consult a physician.

I toner spills rom the toner cartridge, avoid inhaling it or

allowing it to come into contact with your skin. I the toner

comes into contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap

and cold water. I you inhale the toner or your skin becomes

irritated due to contact with the toner, consult a physician or

poison control center immediately.

Others

WARNING

I you are using a cardiac pacemaker:

This machine generates a low level magnetic feld. I you eel

any abnormalities in your body while using this machine, please

move away rom the machine and consult your physician
