GRAHAM, Chris

Coming from a pioneer family, I take a long term perspective. As a farmer, I want to see our farms thrive. As an owner of an accounting company, my business depends on other businesses doing well. I advocate for wise financial management. I am careful with your money, and have worked hard to keep Central Saanich fiscally healthy, while keeping your taxes low. I have practical experience as a small businesses owner. I have served many years on Central Saanich Council and take that role seriously. I identified an error in how the Provincial Grant funding formula was being calculated, and was successful in having our Small Communities grant restored, bringing in more than $2 million for Central Saanich over the last 13 years, and this money continues to come in. Over this last term, I have helped approved two affordable housing projects and the Stelly’s walking path. I am asking you to re-elect me for a 6th term.

JENSEN, Carl

I am always seeking out opportunities to make a difference in the community. Whether picking up garbage on a morning walk through Brentwood Bay, helping to increase recreation on the Saanich Peninsula as the Chair of the Peninsula Recreation Commission, coaching the “Olympians of Tomorrow” as a youth soccer or track and field coach or serving two terms as a Central Saanich Councillor, I believe in helping make my community better. I have a BA in Sociology and a MBA in Executive Management. My work experience consists of ten years with a consulting firm followed by ten years working for the province. During the last seven years at the Council Table I have demonstrated a commitment to building affordable housing, economic development and mobility in Central Saanich. There is more to be done in Central Saanich…that is why I am asking for “YOUR” vote on October 20!

KING, Zeb

I am an independent candidate seeking a 5th term on Central Saanich Council. My family has lived here for three generations. I'm dedicated to protecting our natural and agricultural environment while improving infrastructure to meet the changing needs of the community. I hold a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and work as a Senior Policy Analyst in the BC Health Ministry. During my time as a Councillor, I have been instrumental in:

• Promoting greater citizen participation to enhance problem solving;

• Establishing bus service in the heart of the Tsawout Reserve and restoring service to lower Brentwood Bay;

• Initiating Community to Community Forums between First Nation leaders and Council;

• Starting a Climate Change Action Plan and • Establishing Tree Appreciation Day.

Together we’ll make Central Saanich a healthy, age-friendly, safe, affordable community in which to live, walk, boat, work and ride.

PALTIEL, Niall

I am running for re-election so that we can continue to make Central Saanich a more vibrant community – one with opportunities for families, employees, and seniors. As a born-and-raised Central Saanich resident, small business owner, and tax-paying home owner, this is the place where I want to start a family and support my parents as they age. Throughout my life, I have learned about the community by listening and by getting involved. Whether serving with the Brentwood Bay Rotary, flipping pancakes with the Central Saanich Lions, or contributing on the with Panorama Recreation Centre, and on the Parks and Recreation committee, I bring a unique set of skills and perspectives to council. My thoughtful and common-sense decision-making approach will prioritize road safety, respect for tax dollars, attainable housing, and sustainable farming. Please consider voting for me for Central Saanich Council so that I can go to work for you.

PARFITT, Kathryn

Proud to be born and raised on Vancouver Island, I feel fortunate to run for the Central Saanich city council. With a strong desire to serve my community and represent the voice of the average person, my platform is not based on rigid opinions or political ideologies. My interests and motivation are the people, their experiences and concerns. Campaign promises can be frustrating for the community. I prefer to focus my efforts on the people in our community, openness and transparency. Our homes and our communities are our sanctuary. We work hard to maintain them. When decisions are being made that could affect this community, its tax base and infrastructure the residents need to feel heard and respected. This is my campaign promise. This council will face many challenges going forward and I would be honoured to bring a compassionate, open minded and informed opinion to the table.

RUYGROK, Tayler

Tayler was born and raised in central Saanich and is now a home owner with her fiancé and small child. She has been actively involved with horses and enjoys what the area has to offer in the way of parks, beaches and trails. She believes in keeping the rural beauty of central Saanich and encouraging the community to enjoy the local farms. Being a young home owner and mother she understands the importance of an attainable housing market. She’d like to see more young familys have the ability to enjoy their birthplace as she has been able to. Being an avid walker she notes that much can be improved in the way of road safety. Tayler, as a team player, offers an approachable ear to help bring forward the concerns of the community and looks forward to being a valuable member on council.

STEEPER, Joshua

I am a husband of 11 years, father of 3 young daughters, and a life-long resident of the Peninsula. Our family lives right on Central Saanich Road and I work as a corporate solicitor from our boutique office nestled in Brentwood Bay. I love this region. I also love paperwork, policy, and process. I approach a role in local government with both those loves in mind – we best serve our rural community through excellence in administration. Central Saanich is a rural, family-friendly community. We live here because it’s good to live here. Successful governance intentionally builds to preserve our unique character. Three projects I care about: (1) amalgamation, now, into the District of the Peninsula; (2) building the Keating overpass; and (3) connecting sidewalks on our main roads and around schools. Visit my website, reach out to say hi, or come meet me for a Community Coffee!

THOMPSON, Bob

I’m a moderate Councillor committed to balanced, information-based decisions. As Central Saanich evolves to meet the challenges of affordable housing while protecting rural lands, it’s vital to reach out to the community to confirm our collective vision as we move towards an OCP update. Active transportation planning will enhance safe, livable neighbourhoods. Vibrant commercial centres, a sustainable agricultural economy and good relations with our First Nations neighbours are essential to our quality of life. I offer over 15 years of Council and committee experience. My current Council responsibilities include: Chair, Planning and Development Committee; CRD Alternate Director; liaison to the Advisory Planning Commission, Peninsula and Area Agricultural Commission, South Island Prosperity Project and Smart Cities Challenge. A 27-year resident of Saanichton, I worked in support of local agriculture for over 20 years and continue as an active volunteer with the Saanich Fair (Director), Peninsula Country Market and Brentwood Bay Festival.
