The Category 5 storm caused strong winds, heavy rains and coastal flooding in the north and centre of the country. As many as 50,000 families are believed to have been severely or moderately affected by the disaster. The Cuban National Red Cross and IFRC response will provide support to 25,000 of the most vulnerable people, particularly in water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter and relief items, and restoring family links.
