BOOT VERBS Irregular VERBSSTEM changers
QUICK CHECK! What makes a verb “regular”?
What makes a verb “irregular”?
- The verb follows a pattern when we conjugate it.
- The verb DOES NOT follow a pattern when we conjugate it. Spelling changes either in the stem or completely.
QUICK CHECK! What are our verb “endings” in Spanish?
What is the “stem” of the VERB?
–AR, –ER, and –IR
- All the letters that come BEFORE the ending. Ejemplo: COMER COM
How do we conjugate IRREGULAR verbs?
When we conjugate IRREGULAR verbs, there is no DEFINITE pattern. All these verbs have their own RULES and EXCEPTIONS. With our BOOT-VERBS, we FIRST still knock off the endings.
THEN, we change the spelling of the STEM. This will depend on the verb.
LASTLY, we then add our PRESENT tense endings.
SUBJECT: he or she that DOES the action. *MUST MATCH THE VERB!
