Page 2: Camille Miller, John Peterson Take Club Speech Awards · guished Club” status in Toastmasters Interna-tional’s Distinguished Club Program (DCP). Thus far, since the beginning

As of the end of last month, Diablo 598 was on

track to achieve the coveted “President’s Distin-

guished Club” status in Toastmasters Interna-

tional’s Distinguished Club Program (DCP). Thus

far, since the beginning of the “Toastmasters Year”

on July 1st, the club has obtained six of the 10

goals defined in the Program. This in turn qualifies

us already as a “Distinguished Club.”

If we can achieve just one more, we’ll be a “Select

Distinguished Club,” and if we make it to 9 out of

the 10 goals we’ll once again be anointed as a

“President’s Distinguished Club!”

The six goals achieved thus far are:

Completed two Competent Communicator man-

uals

Achieved one Advanced Communicator status

Achieved one Competent Leader (CL) status

Achieved a second CL status

Recruited four new members (five, actually)

Submitted one officer list and one dues renewal

report to International headquarters on time

If by June 30th we can either — (1) complete two

more CC manuals, or (2) achieve one more Ad-

vanced Communicator status, or (3) recruit three

more new members, we can reach the seven-goal

requirement for Select Distinguished Club. WE

CAN DO THIS!

Every member needs now to dig in and do your

part, by (1) bringing friends to our club and encour-

aging them to join; (2) attending the Chamber of

Commerce “Yo-Pro’s” events and encouraging

folks you meet there to visit us and see for them-

selves what we can do to accelerate their career

advancement, and (3) going to work on your Com-

munication manuals and get one done!

And, if we can knock off all of those goals still out

there, on June 30th Diablo 598 will get yet another

President’s Distinguished Club ribbon! YEAH!!

CINDY’S COLUMN

By Cindy Johnson

Happy spring! Hopefully the bulk of the rain

is behind us and the nice weather will encour-

age more of our members to come to our

weekly meetings. Members get the most out

of Toastmasters when they attend the meet-

ings on a regular basis.

It’s also time for our semi-annual dues. The

$60 fee needs to be paid by the end of

March. Please coordinate your payment with

our Treasurer Irving Joe. Also, please re-

member we are a supper club and have a

commitment to Denny’s to purchase $100’s

worth of food. Any shortcomings have to be

made up by the club. Our current club dues

of $2.50 per month do not allow us to cover

this deficit. We will need to raise our club

dues next October if we continue to fall short

of our requirements. So, please plan to eat

dinner on Thursdays at Denny’s if you can!

I hope all of you have had an opportunity to

start exploring the Pathways training on the

Toastmaster web site. There is a lot of excel-

lent information available to you there. I have

only started to scratch the surface of the doc-

umentation available, and I am impressed

with what is there.

Another thing for you to start thinking about

is what club leadership roles you are willing

to undertake. In the next month or so we will

want to start looking at who will be filling our

slate of officer this summer. The club is in

need of people to step up into various roles,

so please talk to me or any other officer if

you’re willing to help the club out!
