I am delighted to share the news that Ms. Thé is pregnant and this year we will have our 1 st Greenside Leadership baby born. Anneka hopes and expects to be with us until July and we are all thrilled for her and her family! 2. Food Experience Ms. Webber reports: “Thank you to all of our families for coming to our Food Meeting last week. We are grateful for your feedback and for your continuing support. Next Wednesday, 27 th January, during Tea and Cakes, we will be serving samples of our food for you all to try. Jess will set up in the hall and this will be a great opportunity for you to chat with her and to find out about the type of food your children are enjoying. Please do come along and you are welcome to share any recipe ideas you may have.” 3. Greenside Film Screening “Pan. What a way to start off the new term. An absolutely amazing film, which made a place in everybody's heart. The amazing action and adventure capturing us and drawing us into an imaginary world. A great film based on Peter Pan, it has got us all thinking about how Peter Pan actually became Peter Pan. If you were in the room when we watched Pan, you would have felt the drama from the film running through peoples’ body, flaring up many emotions. An amazing film with an amazing story wrapped inside. It was incredible”. Written by Hick – Y5 Our Into Film Young Reporter Ella P wrote this fab review for us to enjoy: Perfect Peter Pan. Pandemonium Peter Pan. Perfect pandemonium priceless Peter Pan. The new best seller from Warner bros. Pan in my opinion is the best film released in 2015-it has action, comedy, adventure and amazingness! It is the story of a young boy who grows up in a Victorian orphanage and then goes into a world from where he never grows up...He faces pirates, never birds, crocodiles, mermaids and the dreaded Blackbeard! 4. Y2 Visit the Museum of Childhood Y2 visited the V&A Museum of Childhood this week on Wednesday, as part of their 'toys' topic. The children enjoyed going back in time to see toys from different eras and loved seeing how they have evolved. The quote of the day goes to Sean who said 'Awww, I wish I was alive in the olden days to play with these toys!' Make sure you check out the special picture page to see some of the highlights of our day! 5. Festival Crew 1 Ms. Webber shares: “We have kicked the term off to a fabulous start in Crew 1 as we journeyed to Mexico to find out about Dia de Los Meurtos and the life of Frida Kahlo. This week we took on Glastonbury! The Crew have worked together to create some fabulous musical performances as well as to recreate the famous pyramid stage out of play dough. Well done Crew 1!”

6. STEM – Life Boats A learning update from Mr. Groves: “Y5 and 6 put on their engineering and designing hats this week to work together to construct life boats, just like the ones from our film ‘Life of Pi’. Students were challenged to put together all of their learning through STEM this year to plan, construct and evaluate their life boats. It was truly amazing to see the students persisting, showing teamwork and putting their ideas in action to build the lifeboats. Come and see the finished product in the corridor or in our classrooms. Just look at the pictures!”

7. STEM – All about Pi Students in Y6 have been learning everything about circles after been inspired by the amazing ability of Pi from ‘Life of Pi’ to be able to recite Pi to over one hun-dred places. From understanding the key features such as radius and diameter to being able to accurately calculate the area of a circle using the formula a=πr². We have done it all! Next step in our learning we will be able to construct our own pie charts using algebraic formulas. Well-done year 6! 8. Primary Maths Challenge Congratulations to all the students who took part in the Primary Maths Challenge from Y5 and 6. Students sat a very challenging Maths paper that truly tested their capabilities at the end of the Autumn Term. With results just being released, I am pleased to announce that Jacob from Y6 has progressed through to the Bonus Round. We wish Jacob luck on the next paper. 9. Home Learning I would like to set an extra fun challenge this week to students in all year groups. Reception – pictures and words, Y1 and Y2 – in 50-100 words, KS2 – in 100-200 words. I am inviting student across Greenside to write a narrative called: ‘I Don’t Want to Grow Up’ On Monday in Board Meeting we’ll be listening to a song that uses this title too but your piece should be about what is so fab and fun about being a child and being you! There’s a book token prize for the most interesting 3 entries I receive. Guideline for length: Reception – pictures and words, Y1 and Y2 – in 50-100 words, KS2 – in 100-200 words. The closing date is Monday 1st February Enjoy and good luck! 10. Greenside Stars Well done to all our class Stars this week – so many wonderful achievements to be proud of. Maths - Nets for the fish tank/ using 2D shapes to create fish Art- Jarman patterns on fish/ pastels It was delightful to see everyone learning together! 13. EYFS Family Information Session Thank you also to the families who joined us on Thursday morning to hear a little more about learning and assessment in Nursery and Reception. It was lovely to see so many of you talking and discussing the learning journey across EYFS with each other and with our Teachers. 14. 15. Y1 go on Safari! Ms. Vandepas tells us: “ Y1 are having a great time researching Africa and learning about different animals. We went on a Safari around the school and even spotted some live lions and tigers! This half term has truly been an adventure!”

16. Suspenseful Dragon Race in Y2 A message from Ms. Medcalf: “Michal and Archie in Y2 participated in an intense Dragon Race on Thursday where both contenders were tested on their 10 times tables. The competition started with Michal taking a strong lead as he blitzed through 3 questions without flinching. Suddenly, Archie had a revelation! He realized that if you times a number by ten you only need to add a 0 to the end of that number. With newfound confidence Archie began to correctly answer question after question, closing the gap. By the final round, Michal and Archie were neck to neck. One step left for each component. It was anyone’s game. The rest of year 2 sat eagerly, biting their nails as anticipation grew. “10 x 9?” called Ms. Medcalf. Without hesitation and running on pure adrenalin (after a jam packed festival day) Archie yells the winning answer, “90!” He got it right! The class cheered and two students lift him up for a celebratory lap! Many patted Michal on the back for a tremendous effort. It was a round of Dragon Races no one in Y2 will ever forget! 17. We Act Local Group Ms. Vandepas also tells us: “What an exciting week it has been for the We Act Local Group! We went to the local Co-op on Askew Road and asked the customers to please buy items for the Parsons Green Food Bank. We were only at the Co-op for 1 hour but managed to collect bags and bags of food for the Food Bank! Thank you to all parents/ carers who came and supported our important cause!” 18. A Message to Y6 Parents/ Carers It’s that time of the year when we start to look at celebrating the life of our Y students at Greenside – my how the time passes! Please see the message below from Chrissie one of our Y6 parents – thank you in advance to her for her work! Year Book - CLASS OF 2016 I am Oli Whiteway’s mum and I want to create a year-book for Year 6 to mark the end of their time at Greenside. It would be wonderful to be able to feature every child in the class and so I would like to ask you to provide a photo of your child when they were 4 or 5 years old (reception age) even if they weren’t at Greenside at that time. It doesn’t have to be a school photo it just wants to show the difference to them now at 11 years old. We will then take photos of them this year and also fill the book with pictures of their time at Greenside through the years and lots of this, their final year. I am going to try and find sponsorship from a local business to pay for the books, but if I don’t they will probably cost around £13 each (the more people sign up the less each one will cost). Regardless of whether you decide to buy a book or not, please still send in a photo as it is really important to include every child in the class as an accurate reflection of Y6. There will be a note sent home with your child next week, please look out for it and fill it in and send it back. 19.
