7th-10th or 14th-17th December 2012 Christmas Weekend Breaks We had a fantastic response from our photo competitions in the last two issues, but for this edition we’ve decided to do things a little bit differently and have a drawing competition! Pilgrim suggested that it should be just pictures of him, but we’ve decided to widen it to anyone or anything at CTE. The prize is £25 voucher to spend in the CTE shop, so get doodling! Scan & send your drawing to [email protected] , or by post marked ‘Chronicle Drawing Competition’ for the chance to win. Closing date for entries is Friday 14th Dec. 2012. (Competition not open to CTE Staff, guests only!) Congratulations to Laura Hughes from Moorvision for the winning photo of Freya, abseiling with Calvert Trust Exmoor’s instructor Kate. Partner Profile: Tourism for All Calvert Trust Exmoor is proud to work in partnership with Tourism for All, a national charity dedicated to making tourism welcoming to all. They provide information to disabled or older people on accessible accommodation and other tourism services in the UK and at selected overseas destinations. Every year they respond to thousands of people who may need help and support to enable them to take a break they may not have previously believed possible. TfA is a national registered charity, and its information service is backed by a website, www.tourismforall.org.uk, and supported by a helpline, 0845 124 9971. The aim is to provide lively, inspirational and comprehensive information that encourages people to try new things, see new places, and live life to the full! TfA would like to hear from you if you have come across anything that could be described as ‘wheelchair accessible’ elsewhere in the world. Much as they would like to, they do not have the resources that permit constant travelling around the globe, so all information that is fed back to them will be put to good use to provide disabled people with the tools to enable them to make an informed decision about whether a place or destination might be suitable to visit. Please email [email protected].

Recent Visitor Comments “We're so grateful for all of your help, support and guidance in the preparation and actual duration of the visit - its been awesome!! The children have had some lifelong positive experiences. All praises to a wonderful organisation that actually looks for the positive achievements of all people. In my twenty years of teaching both mainstream and special educational needs young people, this has easily been the best, most positive experience I have had the fortune to be part of.” Audrey Hopkins, Heritage House School

“Thanks for a smashing week. Its really impressive how you manage to integrate such a diversity of disabilities into cooperative, successful groups. Well done! Hope to return!“ Naomi

“Thank you to all the staff at Calvert Trust Exmoor! A special place indeed.” Hollie

HRH Princess Alexandra opens the Acland Room

Calvert Trust Exmoor was very pleased and excited to be able to host a visit from Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra on the 12th of September 2012, for the official opening of our new Acland Room building, which includes fantastic new swimming pool changing rooms and a new communal space with fantastic views over Wistlandpound reservoir.

As well as opening the new building in front of a large audience of invited visitors, the princess spent several hours at the centre, touring the site, finding out about all the exciting things we do here at CTE, and meeting both staff and guests.

Lady Acland, Chair of Trustees for Calvert Trust Exmoor, gave a short speech, welcoming Her Royal Highness, the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff and all the invited guests, and thanked all those present for their help in supporting the vision, that has come to fruition in the splendid new building we now have. Particular thanks were made to the architects David Wilson Partnership, the construction company Pearce Construction, and the generous support of many of the guests in the room, in particular the Garfield Weston Foundation, Lady Arran and Annie Prebensen.
