WELCOME TO ESCC2015

During 7-10 September, 2015, the European Symposium on Comminution and Classification (ESCC) will take place in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. The conference is being arranged for the 14th time in 53 years and for the second time in Sweden. The Organizer is Chalmers University of Technology who has a long tradition of research within coarse comminution and classification. Goth-enburg is located on the west coast of Sweden. Being the heart of Scandinavia it is easily accessible from all over Europe.

For the ESCC 2015 there will be five main topics with a unifying theme of sustainability and energy efficiency. We would particularly like to mention that we have included the topic Industrial operations in order to bridge the gap between academia and industry through discussion and presentations of industrial case studies and implementations.

The European Symposium on Comminution and Classification is one of the most important interna-tional conferences in its field. It will be attended by company members and scientists from manydifferent branches and countries, offering an arena where knowledge and experience can be shared. This is the 14th conference in the field of Commu-nition and Classification over the past 53 years, andwe are expecting 200 – 300 delegates.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Gothenburg in 2015!

Yours sincerelyProf. Dr. Magnus EvertssonDepartment of Product and Production Development, Chalmers University of Technology

ABSTRACT CATEGORIES ESCC2015

We proudly invite you to be a part of the 14th ESCC with an oral or poster presentation focused on one of the following topics:

Main abstract topics:

A. Comminution and classification of industrial minerals, cement, ores and secondary materialsTopic chairs: Philipp M. Fleiger, Jan Rosenkranz The topic covers advances made in the field of size reduction and classification of particles in the size region commonly related to minerals processing, from primary crushing to milling, i.e. from rocks to 10 micron. Contributions may be focused on applied modelling and simulation of machines, dy-namic simulation, flow sheet considerations, energy efficiency and optimization etc. Specially addressed industries include the Mining industry, Industrial Minerals, Cement and Secondary materials.

B. Grinding, dispersion and classification of fine particlesTopic chairs: Frank Müller (BASF), Arno Kwade The topic covers advances made related to process-ing of organic or in-organic fine particles, usually from mm or µm to the sub-micron size region. Contributions may be focused on fine grinding, wear, modelling, grinding media, characterization, dispersion and nano-milling etc. Specially addressed industries include Food, Chemistry and Pharmaceu-tical industries.

C. Fundamentals, modelling and simulationTopic chairs: Marcello Tavares, Mojtaba Ghadiri The topic covers advances made related to funda-mental understanding of particle behavior especially when subjected to stress conditions. Contributions

may be focused on fracture mechanics, breakage modelling, particle flow and transport modelling, classification physics, as well as plant and equipment simulation etc.

D. Innovation and new technologiesTopic chairs: Hakan Benzer The topic covers advances made related to new technologies, ideas and innovative solutions. Contributions may be focused on new machines and processes, non-mechanic comminution, novel characterization techniques, online measurement, new sorting techniques etc.

E. Industrial operation perspectivesTopic chairs: Magnus EvertssonThe topic covers specifically insights and case studies from industrial operations. Contributions may be focused on performance optimization, control strat-egies, energy and water management, mineralogical complexity, declining ore grades etc.

Unifying theme: Sustainability and energy efficiencyAs a unifying theme across all topics we want to ac-knowledge the major challenges facing the industry related to energy efficiency and sustainability. The contribution does not have to be directly related to this topic however it is of value to include a discus-sion and perspective on how your work is connected to the challenges related to energy efficiency and sustainability (economy, society, environment).
