HISTORY

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), isa public research university located inthe Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California,United States. Founded in 1919, it is the second-oldestcampus of the University of California system. With anapproximate enrollment of 29,000 undergraduate and 13,000graduate students, UCLA is the university with the largestenrollment in the state of California and the most applied touniversity in the world with over 105,000 applications for Fall2014.

The Times of London ranks UCLA 8th in its Times Higher EducationWorld Reputation Rankings (2013) and 12th in its THE World UniversityRankings (2013-14). The reputation ranking is based on a survey ofsenior academics, while the world ranking relies on performanceindicators in the areas of teaching, research citations, industry incomeand international outlook.

UCLA also ranks 12th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities byShanghai Jiao Tong University, based on faculty publications andcitations and the number of alumni and faculty who have won NobelPrizes and Fields Medals.
