Calderdale Forward Special Board Meeting 13 December 2007
NEW LOCAL AREA AGREEMENT:
Context and Next Steps
Where are we now?• LAA signed off March 2007• 36 outcomes under 6 Future Plan Themes• 92 performance indicators, including 20 mandatories,
and 14 reward targets• Overall good progress being made• Some concerns mainly around perception and
behavioural measures
New LAAs: Where we need to be
• Identify “up to 35 priorities” to be drawn from the new 198 National Indicators Set+ 16 statutory education and early years targets
• Agree stretch performance on our “up to 35” • Able to measure all 198 indicators for area
assessment• Decide what “local” targets (if any) we want in our
LAA• Start negotiation with Government Office from now
until end of May• Achieve LAA sign off by June 2008
National Indicator SetExamples
• NI 35 Building resilience to violent extremism
• NI 36 Protection against terrorist attack
• NI 11 Engagement in the Arts
• NI 14 Avoidable Contact: The average number of customer contacts per received customer request
How do we get there?• Build on current LAA• Consider how the existing “story of place”
reflects our ambitions and major issues? – feedback from Theme Partnerships
• Look at the 36 priority outcomes in our current LAA to check reflect ambition, underperformance and Government priorities
• Identify indicators to reflect our story of place and priorities
Next Steps• Seek broad agreement on Calderdale’s story of place• Affirm any changes to the current list of priority
outcomes for the New LAA• Seek proposals regarding the 35 indicators from the
198 NIS• Develop a first draft story of place and draft priority
indicators in January• Bring back to Board meeting 23 January
Key Issues for the Board
• What changes, if any, are required in our “story of place”?
• Is there an impact on the wording of our current 36 priority outcomes?
• Are there any new issues to be covered in our priorities?
• How does the 198 NIS fit within our priorities?
