nesses 12 anos de existência, a
evolução do trabalho sistemático
de pesquisa e divulgação das fontes de
inspiração para os industriais e designers
dos segmentos de joias e bijuteiras tem
demonstrado o seu acerto. Cada vez mais
o design brasileiro tem se destacado,
incorporando valores e conceitos, numa
estratégia de marketing bem definida, o
que tem permitido às joias e bijuterias
brasileiras se diferenciarem, tanto no
mercado interno quanto externo.
esse trabalho é fruto de parceria
entre o IBGM e o SEBRAE, incluindo
suas unidades estaduais dos principais
polos de joias, que tem unido esforços
com a APEX-BRASIL, com o objetivo
fundamental de impulsionar a
competitividade e o desenvolvimento
sustentável do setor, principalmente
numa época de forte concorrência e
incertezas no mercado internacional,
Moda Brasil, fortalecendo a mensagem
e buscando ressaltar a identidade
brasileira pela incorporação, por todos os
segmentos da moda, de diversos aspectos
da brasilidade definidos conjuntamente.
a exemplo das edições anteriores,
o lançamento nacional do Preview
acontecerá em duas das principais feira
do setor, a Feninjer, em agosto e a
ajorsul/Mercoóptica, em setembro, com
palestras para centenas de empresas
do varejo e jornalistas, nacionais e
internacionais. na sequência, serão
realizados lançamentos específicos
em 10 estados, divulgando as quatro
tendências/fontes de inspiração, para
os lojistas e jornalistas da região,
fechando assim o ciclo da gestão
do design para o ano de 2013.

LUIZ BARRETTO
Director President of Sebrae
Over the last twelve years,
our systematic research and
dissemination of sources of inspiration
to guide industries and designers in the
jewelry and costume jewelry market
have been shown to be correct. Brazilian
design has stood out more and more,
incorporating values and concepts into a
well-defined marketing strategy. This has
enabled Brazilian jewelers and costume
jewelers to establish a differential in both
the domestic and international markets.
This project is the result of a
partnership between IBGM and SEBRAE,
including its state-level units in the
main jewelry centers, which have
joined forces with APEX-BRASIL with
the fundamental goal of stimulating
the Sector’s competitiveness and
sustainable development, especially
at a time of intense competition
and great uncertainty in the
international market as today.
It is, therefore, with great satisfaction
that we present another edition of
the Jewelry and Costume Jewelry
Design Preview Booklet. This is, as we
all know, much more than a trends
booklet: it is a strategic overview
covering the different stages involved
in the design management process, in
other words: creation, manufacturing,
promotion and sales to the consumer.
It is worth remembering that this
project has aimed to integrate the trend
research and definition stage with the
other organizations that make up the
Brazil Fashion System, strengthening
its message and striving to emphasize
a Brazilian identity through the
incorporation of different aspects of the
jointly-defined Brazilian spirit that are to
be incorporated by all fashion segments.
As in the case of earlier editions
of the Preview, it will be launched
at two of the sector’s main trade
fairs: Feninjer, in August, and Ajorsul/
Mercoóptica, in September, with
talks to hundreds of domestic and
international retail companies and
journalists. Following on from this, there
will be specific launches in 10 states
to show the four trends/sources of
inspiration to the region’s retailers and
journalists. This will bring the design
management cycle for 2013 to a close.

¹ Como Queríamos demonstrar
CQD¹
Cotidiano 2013
predador e, principalmente, buscando identificar valores essenciais
do século XX, a estimular as nossas sensibilidades e nossas
¹ As we would Like to Demonstrate
ALD¹
A history of achievements
For thirteen years these editions of the trends survey
have been dedicated to observing the extensive
environment that makes up the luxury and fashion
products market, and to highlighting the so-called
Top Trends, that is: the preferences, themes and
colors that predominate every year. The continuous
nature of this investigation has yielded a history
of achievements that has exposed the fine tuning
between the jewelry, fashion and economic
areas. By reading it, we can see how changes in
the behavior of our consumers can be revealed
through reading into certain significant signals.
The panorama shown by this latest survey,
which began in the second half of 2011 and
finished at the beginning of 2012, has produced
series of symptoms that have revealed the
attributes of the meaning of a new age.
DAILY LIFE 2013
A time of extraordinary
life experiences
In 2013, we will, on the one
hand, as pioneering inhabitants
of the 21st century, show greater
sensitivity towards collective
‘politically correct’ issues, as we
become ever more aware of matters
relating to sustainable development,
concerned about predatory consumption
and, especially, strive to identify the
essential and long-lasting values that will
underpin our life style choices. however,
on the other hand, as our human desires
are not guided by reason alone, we have
already started to feel a certain nostalgia for
the existentialism of the 20th century, which has
been stimulating our sensitivities and affinities
for the poetry of a bohemian, hedonistic past.
9Comportamento
Felicidade agora!
BEHAVIOR
Happiness now!
We highlight some of the
behavioral trends to emerge
from this complex context.
We are sensitive towards
treating the ordinary as
something special, the dream
of a possible utopia, and reality
as an allowable fantasy.
Daily habits have become
important in our lives and
routine achievements are what
we expect from our lives.
Unlike the moral environment of
other ages, the idea of happiness
in contemporary dynamics is
no longer projected to be a
goal at the end of a trajectory,
but rather a path through life.
CONTEXT 2013
Our consumers
A not-so-very-new middle
class has emerged, which has
begun to consume goods
from what is considered to
be the luxury market and has
therefore started to have its
tastes respected by producers.
In both higher and lower fashion
culture, the popular and the
erudite have blended together
to form a new environment.
The new productions include
different references to cultural
and social experiences.
In the context of this fairy tale,
dreaming is something serious!
Economic changes have enabled
the consumption desires of these
new social players to redefine
the consumption panorama
of international jewelry.

Palavrinhas mágicas para 2013
são, sem dúvida, Felicidade,
Humanismo e Gentileza.
os marcadores tradicionais da economia
passaram a ser relativizados por adjetivos
pouco comuns ao mundo da razão.
o conceito de Felicidade é introduzido
nas avaliações sobre o desempenho
dos países. Um novo Humanismo
renasce como forte inspiração para
o design de todos os produtos. a
Gentileza passa a ser a qualidade mais
chique da vida contemporânea.
Palavras-chave2013
For a more sensitive world
The magic words for 2013 are, without a doubt:
Happiness, Humanism and Kindness.
Traditional economic markers have been
put into perspective by adjectives that are
seldom used in the world of reason.
The concept of Happiness has been introduced
into surveys of a country s performance.
A new Humanism has been reborn as a
forceful inspiration behind the design of all
products. Kindness has become the most
chic quality in contemporary life.

RedesignRedesign’ significa a reformulação do design
no design. É o termo utilizado para designar
o processo de modernização de um produto.
as joias desse portal expressam o desejo

‘Retrofit’ das formas e das cores
To ‘redesign’ means to reformulate the design of something. A need
for renovation can come about for different reasons. It could be due
to the emergence of new techniques or new materials, to adapt
products to new behaviors, or even to new economic values, as a
marketing strategy for renewing the product on the market. In jewelry,
the concept of ‘Redesign’ has come about to recover the beauty
values of the classical forms, which have been trivialized by fashion
cycles, but whose stature ensures that items will retain their value.
‘Retrofitting’ is a worldwide trend which adopts the creative
attitude of taking a new look at things that are already in the world,
whether it is in engineering, architecture or design. It is the term
used to designate the process of modernizing a product.
The jewels in this portal express the romantic
desire of giving value to the classics.

o consumo sequencial colecionável, condicionando a
FAShION MIX: Let’s match up?
Fashion used to be understood as a
mechanism for copying. Nowadays, it is
recognized for stimulating differentiation.
The use of jewelry is the most efficient ally of
the contemporary desire for customization.
The dream of a specially differentiated life,
where authenticity is the right of all, has been
introduced as a maximum priority for this season.
In 2013, jewelry design has expanded its array
of combinations and enabled many things to be
mixed and matched together in the development
of a personal, unique, non-transferable style.
The use of matching wedding rings, bracelets and
pendants not only produces unique looks that
reveal a person’s individuality, but opens up the
possibility of sequential, collectable consumption,
stimulating consumer loyalty to a product range, or
even leading to the production of mash ups – the
mixed up use of items from different collections
- and even fashion mixes – the combination
of old jewelry with newly-acquired items.
The mixture of textures and, especially, alloys
of gold – yellow, white, rose and black – is
the preferred resource for those consumers
that are alert to the latest in jewelry trends.

In keeping with the key concept underlying Preview 2013, the feelings
of nationality, identity and origin, are characteristic of the romantic
spirit. Likewise, the very spiritual roots of the environmental protection
and humanism movements lie at the base of this thought.
Brazil will be in the worldwide spotlight in the next few years. In 2013,
Brazilian production will start to supply a high demand from consumers
looking for goods that express the values of all things Brazilian. Chromatic
knowledge, when using colored gemstones, as well as an up-to-date
awareness of modern forms, is part of the DNA of domestic jewelry
design. The spectacularly precious capital of our nature associated with
an original design style with its own cultural identity is a certain recipe
for the success of Brazilian production in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016...

Luxury is still defined by scarcity, a feeling
of time, inheritance, the ability to express
affection and devotion, and gives more
and more value to the concept of the
‘workmanship’ of an object where
excellence in the manufacturing process
requires slowness and yields a product
that must be of long-lasting use.
Time is the jeweler’s greatest ally – age-
long in the process of forming the materials
used in production, and exceptionally so
in the case of jewels – flowing against
the market of disposable ephemera. Time
is the jeweler’s most precious asset; its
unquestionable differential is the main
argument for its exceptional nature. This is
why the enduring nature of jewels is what
makes them the only objects that lie outside
the run-of-the-mill disposal dynamics of
fashion. It is always worth remembering
that jewels never become trash.
It is ‘in’ to invest in items that relate directly
to consumers’ feelings and personalities.

preciosa mecanicamente industrializada,
sabe-se lá onde. ou pior, sabe-se bem.
out
There is nothing more ‘out’, or old-fashioned,
than the ostentatious use of jewelry, apart
from its trivialization through the copy of
a design, since these copies have no aura,
do not shine, and are nothing but a sham.
Another mistake is the irresponsible use
of precious materials such as gold, silver,
palladium, diamonds, colored and organic
stones – which are both commercially and
environmentally valuable, for their costs to the
nature of our planet – in profane quantities
that are void of any quality attributes.
At the present time, with the expansion of
the jewelry market, it has become clear
to a larger number of consumers that the
value of a jewel can be fairly expressed
by the sum of its material value - the
traditional criterion – and the immaterial
values included in its design quality.
In the same way that our individualities
cannot survive in shoals of generic repetitions,
jewels have souls that live harmoniously
in families of collections and product
ranges, but whose spirit cannot survive the
opportunism of copies, and disintegrate
before the invasion of commodities. A jewel
which does not have these properties is
not a jewel; it is no more than a precious
material which has been mechanically
industrialized, nobody knows where – or,
what is worse: everybody knows where!
