    What is USB 3.0?

Known as USB SuperSpeedCompared to USB 2.0 known asHigh Speed

    New specification for USB

An improvement over theexisting USB 2.0 specification

    Surpasses existing USB, eSATA

    and IEEE-1394 in speed

    Why USB 3.0?

As mass storage drives increase in size, greateramounts of data needs to be transferred

Power demands from devices has exceeded thelimits USB 2.0

Other connectivity options such as eSATA andIEEE-1394 offered throughput that USB 2.0 couldnot compete against

    Things you should know

4.8Gbps is not the real world speed of file transfer.Overhead from protocol, hardware limitations, and chipsetlimitations prevent file transfer at 4.8 Gbps

Throughput is the real world speed ~ 600Mbps

USB 3.0 products will not be at full throughput ability in thebeginning

Hardware and chip sets for SuperSpeed has not reach full potentialyet

SuperSpeed (3.0) cables will not work with High Speed (2.0)

devicesNew connectors are too large to fit

High Speed cables will work on SuperSpeed devices
