Nutt Named Finalist inNational Merit Scholarship Program
Derek Nutt is a finalist in the National MeritScholarship Program.
Nutt, a 2017 Corsicana High School graduate, iscurrently attending Harding University inArkansas with a double major in Biochemistryand Molecular Biology.
Approximately 15,000 students have beenselected as finalists based on a number ofrigorous academic requirements. Thenationwide pool of finalists represents less than1 percent of U.S. high school seniors andincludes the highestscoring from each state.
Beginning in March and concluding in June,7,500 finalists will be notified that they havebeen chosen to receive a Merit Scholarship.

CHS Students Win State Awards from the American Veterans Association
Congratulations!
Winners of the American Veterans Association (AMVETS) Against Drug andAlcohol Abuse essay contest were announced at Corsicana High School. CHSstudents in the Higher Start program taking Sociology (for both college and high
school credit) entered the essay/poem contest with the assistance of the instructor,Sandra Willard and the AMVETS local chapter.
Claire Johnson's poem advanced to win the state competition. Jason Rivas took second place at state, and Samara Williams placed third at state,and took first place in the local competition. Johnson's entry will continue to the
national competition.
CHS Calicos Shine at National Competition
The Calicos won several awards at their recent compeition including national
champion team hip hop, national champion officer hip hop, national championsocial officers, 2nd place team open, 2nd place team contemporary, 3rd place team
pom, 3rd place officer jazz, 3rd place officer contemporary, 2nd place seniorensemble, 3rd place team, and 3rd place dance officers!

Cottar Returns to Navarro
Ms. Debbie Cottar was named Interim Principal atNavarro Elementary after Mrs. Lauren Hodge, principalsince 2015, accepted a position at Huntsville ISD.Cottar is very familiar with the campus as she wasprincipal there for 11 years. She is currently working asthe CISD Director of Bilingual ESL. Cottar has 43years of experience in education. "Ms. Hodge hasdone a wonderful job as principal and we are sad tosee her leave CISD. I feel confident that Ms. Cottar willsuccessfully assume the responsibilities of principaluntil we find a permanent replacement," said Dr. DianeFrost, superintendent of Corsicana ISD.

Navarro College.

CISD FFA Wins Biggest Award at Houston Show
Over spring break, Corsicana ISD students and teachers competed in the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Corsicana students from both the middle school and high school competing in theAg Mechanics Project Show, collectively won the Dr. Billy Harrell Award ofExcellence over every other FFA and 4H program including over 500 projectentries. This award represents leadership, knowledge, work ethic, teamwork,
communication and skill.
In addition to the Harrell Award, the Corsicana Middle School Ag Mechanics ShowTeam won the Grand Champion Overall for Showmanship for their Aquaponics
Lab. The team received over $12,000 in prizes. CMS team members include ZanePetty, Peyton Brown, Bradley Gruver, Christian Eastman, and Will McSpadden.
Corsicana High School studentsDylan White and Jack Blanton won first in class fortheir 16 ft. Utility Trailer. Mason Dyer and Kinden Townsend had a third place in
class their 35 ft. Multibale Trailer and Brendon Watkins and Andrew Benton placedsixth in class for their 12 ft. Utility Trailer.
Other students who placed at the show include CHS student Ally Aldama won 4thplace for her End of Year Essay out of 368 entries; and Junior FFA participantMaycie Walker from Bowie Elementary placed 7th in the Pig Show; and Alyssa
Walker junior FFA member from Collins Intermediate School placed 4th in her steerclass and made the sale.
The instructors at CHS are Mark Vitters, Kaitlyn Riggin and Miranda Johnson. Larry
Acock is the instructor at Corsicana Middle School.
