4-Fifth Grade; 5-Special Services with 1 Para

12 Support Staff including bookkeeper, secretary, FTE clerk,

What does it mean to be aTitle I School?

• Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs.These dollars are used for…– Identifying students experiencing academic difficultiesand providing timely assistance to help these student’smeet the State’s challenging content standards.– Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies– Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities– Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers• Being a Title I school also means parental involvement andparents’ rights.

How our school is using this funding?

Byron Elementary School is planning on Title 1:Byron Elementary Schools 2015- 2016 Title 1 budget for the year is $116,800.00. Our parent involvement budget for the year is $2344.00.Plans for funding:1. Instructional Facilitator2. 3. Professional Development that supports Common Core, RESA Workshops4. Computer Software – Study Island, Reading Eggs, Mathseeds, Scootpad, 5. Supplemental recourses i.e. workbooks, supplies

What is the BES Title I Plan?• The BES Title I Plan addresses how the local educationagency will use Title I funds throughout the school to supplement instruction for struggling students.

Topics include:– Student academic assessments– Additional assistance provided struggling students– Coordination and integration of federal funds andprograms– Parental Involvement Strategies, including the BESParental Involvement Plan.

A copy of BES’s Title I Schoolwide Plan is available on our website and in our Media Center.

What is a School Improvement Plan?• The SIP is your School Improvement Plan and includes:– A Needs Assessment and Summary of Data– Goals and Strategies to Address Academic Needs of Students– Professional Development Needs– Coordination of Resources/Comprehensive Budget

What is the 1% set-aside and howare parents involved?

• Any LEA with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500,000 isrequired by law to set aside 1% of it’s Title I allocation forparental involvement.

• Of that 1%, 5% may be reserved at the LEA for system-wideinitiatives related to parental involvement. The remaining95% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the LEA. Peach County gives 100% of the 1% to the six Title I Schools. For FY15, BES will receive $2,283 of the 1% Set-Aside to implement school-level parent involvement.

How is the evaluation of the BES Parental Involvement Plan conducted?

• Evaluation Requirements– Conduct annually– Conduct with Title I parents– Analyze Content and Effectiveness of the current plan– Identify Barriers to parental involvement– Data/Input may include…• Parent Survey (Required)• Parent Advisory Committees• Process and Timeline• The evaluation helps to revise the plan

What is our school’s Designation Status?

Schools are no longer identified as in improvement.Only Reward, Priority, Focus, and Alert

Schools are identified. Title I schools with this status are required to implement specific programs and interventions.

BES has not been given a school designation this year which means we are continuing to provide quality education for all our students.

Common Core and Georgia

On February 19, 2015, the State Board of Education (SBOE) voted to rename the ELA and Mathematics standards to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).

• The full GSE standards can be viewed athttps://www.georgiastandards.org

• Georgia’s Standard Course of Study has been completely

overhauled and new standards have been implemented in classrooms.

Parent Involvement

Ways you can be involved:•Volunteer to help i.e. reading to class; class mom; Assist with pictures, school store, Field trips, etc.

•Attend workshops and school events i.e. Watch Dog Kick-off; Curriculum Night; Core subject workshops; Finance Workshop, Parent/Teacher conferences, PTO

•Keep teachers informed of events that might affect your child’s work or behavior

•Be a voice for BES – help get the word out to parents of children who may be attend school next year – Round-up, “Getting Ready for Kindergarten”

How can I volunteer to assist my student with school needs?

• Join the School Improvement Team• Volunteer to contact other parents regarding important school information.• Ex. – 100% Compact completion• Talk to your neighbors and let them know what is going on at your child’s school.• Stay in contact with your child’s teacher
