Also families found it difficult to make the rationing last.

Rationing lasted from 1939 to 1954.

countryside to a new family, while their parents stayed behind to help with the war

The children were sent to the countryside all over Britain.

Some children were lucky and were placed with kind families.

The evacuees met in camps for a holiday break and saw their friends

During the war children, older people, teachers and women with children under 5 had to be evacuated.

They were evacuated to the countryside to keep them safe from bombs.

Most Children had to leave their parents behind.

Billeting Officers were in charge of where the children would stay when they were evacuated.

They would be sent somewhere in the countryside like Cornwall, Devon, Oxfordshire or Wales

label which said where they would be billeted.
