King Harald Bluetooth (A.D. 940 to 985)

10th century Viking king in Denmark

Credited for uniting the country and established Christianity

Viking states included Norway and Sweden ,which is the connection to Ericson (creator of Bluetooth)

The Bluetooth technology was born in 1994

The first version was released in July 1999

Bluetooth is a standard for tiny , radio frequency chips that can be plugged into your devices such as computers ,printers , mobile phones etc. These devices can form a quick secure “piconet” and start connection (PICONET: a collection of devices connected via Bluetooth technology). It uses a technology called frequency hopping spread spectrum that makes of rare for more than one devices to transmit at the same time.

Each channel is divided into time slots 625 microseconds long

Packets can be up to five timeslots wide

Data in a packet can be up to 2,745 bits in length

Communicates on the 2.45 GHz frequency

Wireless

No setup needed

Low power consumption (1 milliwatt)

Industry wide support

It can connect 8 devices simultaneously with ease.

It can work even in noisy environments.

Short range (10 meters)

Small throughput rates data rate 1.0 mbps

The greater range and radio frequency (RF) of Bluetooth make it much more open to interception and attack

Devices can easily grab radio waves out of air, so people who use such network need to take precaution to make sure that signals aren’t intercepted.

Use of automatic natured Bluetooth brings huge benefit in terms of time and effort but at the same time it is a benefit to the people looking to send you data without your permission.

It offers several security modes and device manufacture determine which mode to include in Bluetooth enabled gadgets.

With a strong industry pushing behind it, success is inevitable

If it can satiate the needs of the global market in an easy and inexpensive way it promises to become uniting force in the wireless world and endow us with the freedom of mobility like never before.

The SIG members have recently announced the upcoming version of Bluetooth module as Bluetooth 4.0
