As simple as that sounds, so much of our effectiveness as Christians is multiplied or diminished by how happy we appear to others. As we reflect Christ in our lives and serve as His hands and His feet, people will be more curious and more excited to see and hear what makes us different if we go about life reflecting the happiness that we can only have with the assurance of our salvation. Everyone has struggles and challenges, this isn’t ignoring the pressures, anxiety and stressors that come at each of us at different levels and in different ways, but my desire is that we each welcome 2019 finding new and more paths to happiness! On behalf of the elders as I wish you all a Happy New Year, here are some thoughts to ponder and challenge us toward being Happy! • Be Grateful for what You Have • Live in the Present • Be Kind to Yourself • Be Kind to Others • Stay Positive in Challenging Times • Choose to Be Happy • Set Goals • Always be Learning • Bible Study • Prayer Here are a few verses to consider when you feel challenged: Philippians 4:11-13, “..For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 24:46, “Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Proverbs 11:17, “ A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.” Romans 5:2-5, “…we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope…” Rom. 12:12, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, constant in prayer.” by Michael Ledbetter Being Happy in the New Year Sunday Assignments: Jan 6 Jan 13 Song Leader Tim Stroud Daniel Hudgeons Prayer/Opening Steven Hopwood Adam Bledsoe Scripture Reading Stan Chivers Mark Epperson Preside/Communion Chris Thornton Jack Tucci Prayer/Closing Gordon Bond Mark Copeland Nursery - up to 18m Misty Ayers, Debra Baker Lisa Nabholz, Emily Pennington Nursery - 18 to 36m Natalie DeVorak, Heather Oaks Sarah Peabody, Jennifer Poole Sunday Assignments: Jan 20 Jan 27 Song Leader Chad Hearne Youth Outreach University Prayer/Opening David Brandon Youth Outreach University Scripture Reading Quenn Gayfield Youth Outreach University Preside/Communion Jeremy Ussery Youth Outreach University Prayer/Closing Michael Ledbeer Youth Outreach University Nursery -up to 18m Amy Porter, Edie Bomar Kersten Ellis, Debbie Lambert Nursery - 18 to 36m Sarah Ratzlaff, Metra Scaife Joseline Keefer, Johnna Smith Monthly Assignments: Wednesday Nights: Communion Ivan Bravo, Paul DeHart, Bobby Edwards Jan 2 Jeremy Gillson, Charles Harris, Greg Huff Young Boys 2yr-1st Dewey Mahan, Keith Mullins, Alan Pounds Jan 9 Andy Pennington, Caleb Ricke, Paul Ricke Young Boys 2nd-6th Ushers Tim Capps* John Holder** Jan 16 Greg Chaffin, Gary Poole (S)Ben Burleson (P) Barry Holder, Michael Bomar Jan 23 Keith Hinson Youth Group Teens Greeters Chad & Dawn Hearne - Welcome Desk Jan 30 Adam & Amanda Bledsoe, Brian & Mary Smith College Group Berkley & Randy Simmons, Kelly & Melanie Food Coordinators for Jan (A-F) Garre, Ma & Lindsey Leslie Mona Williams The Apostle Paul is a great example of one who did not see himself as having arrived, but always reach- ing--reaching forward, reaching up, and reaching out. In Philippians chapter 3 he makes this very claim. “Not that I have already attained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” We too must see ourselves as always reaching--not having arrived--but always pressing on! REACHING UP IN 2019
