Iowa ABCsBy Meghan Funk1A is for Adventureland Adventureland is located in Altoona, Iowa just outside of Des Moines , Iowa. Inside is Iowas longest lazy river and largest wave pool.The wave pool is 25,000 square feet and the lazy river is 1/3 of a mile.The wave pool is new to 2012 and will be located in Breaker Beach and the lazy river is located in Adventure Bay.

B is for Butter CowThe Iowa butter Cow has been a world famous attraction since 1911. The Butter Cow is located at the Iowa State Fair in the Agriculture building and entirely made of butter.Mrs. Norma Lyons has been making the Butter Cow for a long time, but unfortunately she died June 11 at age 81.

C is for Corn Fields Corn is a resource found all over Iowa.Everywhere you go there will be corn nearby.

D is for Dust BowlThe Great Depression was not a good time for Iowa. Especially in 1936.In the winter of 1936, it seemed just like a long blizzard, only, it wasn't a blizzard. It was a dust bowl.The dust bowl was so severe it took houses down, cars toppling over, and deaths caused from the strong winds blowing the dust in every nook and cranny it could find.

E is for Effigy MoundsEffigy Mounds is located in Allamakee and Clayton counties in northeast Iowa.

The common shapes for the Mounds are bison, birds, bear, deer, lynx, panther, turtle, and water spirits.

F is for Field of DreamsThe Field of Dreams is located in northeastern Iowa and was filmed in Iowa.The Field of Dreams was filmed in 1989 and the site is now on display for tourist to tour.

G is for General Dodge HouseThe Dodge House is located in southwestern part of Iowa and in the city of Council Bluffs.The members of the dodge house were, General Greenville M. Dodge, Ruth Anne {wife}, Lettie {daughter 1}, Ella {daughter 2}, and Anne {daughter 3, also known as Little Annie}

I is for Iowa State FairThe Iowa State Fair is the largest state fair in the U.S.A and has been a famous attraction since 1911.The Iowa State Fair is also famous for the butter cow.The Iowa State Fair has rides, games, and contest that all ages can enter.Another famous attraction is Little Hands on the Farm where children ages 1-10 can plant their own garden of vegetables, pick apples, collect corn and wool, sell it, buy a healthy snack and more.

J is for John DeereJohn Deere is a famous company that sells tractors, plows, and other farm tools. But it didnt just appear out of the blue, it was created by himself, John Deere.John Deere himself was born on February 7th, 1804 and died on May 17th 1886. But before he died his company John Deere was a big company and still is today.

K if for Knoxville, IowaKnoxville, Iowa is the county seat for Marion county and is home of the National Sprint Car Races Hall of Fame which is located right next to the mile dirt track.

Knoxville is also home of the Iowa Sate Flag. The house that the first official Iowa State Flag is an open to the public and is open for tours all the time.

L is for Lake Red RockLake Red Rock may look like a lake know but years ago it actually used to be a town with buildings, businesses, and people living there but that all changed in 1851 when a big flood hit.Since the flood was so big and t destroyed more than half the town, the decided to make it a lake and now it is the largest lake in Iowa.The lake also has a beach where you can ride your boat up right at the beach. The beach also has a picnic area above.

M is for MeMy name is Meghan and I live here, in Iowa and would not pick any other place to live.But I was not born in Iowa, I was born in Nebraska.The reason I love living here is because in the winter it snows like crazy and we get snow days and get to go sledding instead of being at school. And in the summer it is always so hot that we do to cool off is go to the pool and swim all day long.

N is for Newton Speedway This speed way is 7/8 mile track with asphalt over the entire track.The track was designed by NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace.

O is for the Oak TreeA Oak is a tree or a shrub in which almost 600 spices exist. The Oak Tree became Iowas state tree in 1961.

P is for Pottawattamie CountyPottawattamie County is full of fun stuff to do and see.In Council Bluffs you can see the Dodge House, The Railroad Museum and more.

Q is for Quaker OatsQuaker Oats in Iowa started in 1873 and is now the largest cereal company in the world.The factory in Iowa was the first Quaker Oats to be established and was started in Cedar Rapids.Three families started the company; the Stuart family, the Higley family, and the Douglas Family.

Ragbrai officially started in 1973 and has been continued ever since and is held every summer in Iowa.Ragbrai is when bikers from all over Iowa and even different states come to ride on their bikes from one end of the state to the other end of the state.All ages can ride in this fun bike ride across Iowa.

S is for Squirrel Cage jailThe Squirrel Cage Jail is one of the most famous jails in the country. Its style is 3 floors and cells in a circular shaped cell with cells inside the one big cell.When the police officers rotated it to check on other crooks, sometimes hands, legs, etc would get taken off.Sometimes jail man would not see sunlight for days, they would be hungry with no food or medical attention for days.

T is for TornadoIowa is right along Tornado Ally, so Iowa experiences a lot of tornados each year and they make a lot of damage .The tornados that Iowa get range from a F-1 to a F-5.

U is for the Union Pacific RailroadThe Union Pacific Railroad is the most famous railroad company in the world.Union Pacific operates North America's premier railroad franchise, covering 23 states in the western two-thirds of the United States.

V is for Villisca Axe MurdersThe Villisca Axe Murders were committed in 1912 and have not been solved since.The 8 victims that were brutally hacked to death with an axe were: Josiah B Moore, Sara Moore, Herman Moore (11), Katherine Moore (10), Boyd Moore (7), Paul Moore (5), Ina Stillinger (8), and Lena Stillinger (12)

The Villisca Axe Murder HouseW is for Wabash Nature TrailWabash Nature Trail is Located next to Lewis Central High School.Wabash Nature Trail actually used to be a train route where there used to be train tracks.Wabash Nature Trail is home of the Thursday Taco Ride each summer to Minneola .

X is for Xavier High School 1. Xavier High School is located in Ceader Rapids.2. It is Ceader Rapids only and Iowas 6th catholic school.

Y is for YMCAThe YMCA was established in June 6 1844.The YMCA has more than 45 million members today.

Zoo is for Blank Park Zoo in Des MoinesBlank Park Zoo is the biggest zoo in Iowa. The Blank Park Zoo is the only accredited zoo in the state of Iowa.
