Aspects of art deco-Electric or artistic design style.-Has roots in Paris from the Arts Decoratif Fair during the 1920s.-Flourished during the 1930s and the World War II era.-Very distinctive use of symmetry.-Largely influenced by neoclassical, constructivism, cubism, modernism and futurism.-Usually consists of geometric shapes.-Was a very elegant and styled form of architecture.-Lots of layers and setbacks.

NBC Tower -Art Deco structure in Chicago-Finished in 1989.-Designed by famous architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.-located at 454 North Columbus Drive.-Has a similar design to Tribune Tower.-The building is 37 stories.-The building reaches a height of 627 feet.

Holabird & Roche

-Designed buildings such as Chicago Board of Trade Building, 333 North Michigan Building, Marquette Building, Soldier Field, and the Daily News Building.-The firm was established in 1880.-Is now known as Holabird & Root.-Has changed its name numerous times, but was originally Holabird & Simonds.-Designed the famous Graceland Cemetery, which is now home to, Potter Palmer, Marshall Field, Allan Pinkerton, Louis Sullivan and more. 333 North Michigan

Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT)-Probably one of the most distinctive art deco buildings in Chicago.-Built in 1930. 605 feet tall-The arcitects were Holabird & Roche.-Constructed of limestone.-There is a statue of Roman goddess of grain, Ceres on the very top as seen on the right.

Merchandise Mart

-North bank of the Chicago River, between Wells and Franklin Streets, Chicago-Opened in 1930.-Was once the largest building in the world at 4,000,000 square feet of floor space.-Designed by Alfred Shaw.
