HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT VEIN APPLY A TOURNIQUET TO THE LIMB YOU ARE WANTING TO PUNCTURE WAIT FOR VEINS TO START TO BULGE (APPROX 30 SECONDS) LOOK AND FEEL FOR A VEIN

HOW TO PREPARE TO INSERT THE IV CLEAN THE SKIN OVER THE VEIN YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO USE WITH A STERILE ALCOHOL PREP ALLOW THE ALCOHOL TO DRY PULL TRACTION ON THE SKIN TO ENSURE THAT THE VEIN WILL NOT MOVE AS THE NEEDLE PASSES THROUGH THE SKIN

HOW TO INSERT THE IV INTO THE VEIN HOLD THE NEEDLE AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE TO THE SKIN WHILE HOLDING TRACTION, QUICKLY PUNCTURE THE SKIN, ENTERING INTO THE VEIN

HOW TO INSERT THE IV INTO THE VEIN (cont) WAIT TO SEE A FLASH OF BLOOD THROUGH THE CATHETER PULL THE NEEDLE OUT OF THE PLASTIC, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY THREADING THE PLASTIC INTO THE VEIN

HOW TO SECURE THE IV MAKE SURE THE IV IS THREADED ALL THE WAY INTO THE VEIN TAPE IT TO THE SKIN WITH THE TAPE OF YOUR LIKING FLUSH THE IV WITH A STERILE SALINE TO ENSURE THE LINE IS CORRECTLY IN THE VEIN AND THE BLOOD HAS BEEN CLEARED FROM THE TUBING REMOVE THE TOUNIQUET
