*Introduction

The state I am presenting is the 50th state of the US, Alaska. Some may think Alaska is cold year round, its not though. But there is one thing that makes it stand out above all others, the extremely cold winters, reaching below -40oF.

*Climate

Michigan’s weather compared to Alaska is quite different in a way. The summers and springs are no different, but when fall comes around, temperatures start dropping to degrees ranged from 30-15oF. Snow fall starts early.

In the winters, its about time to put on the large jackets, because the temperature goes down to -30oF average, -40 and below at 2 months into winter. One reason why it is this cold is because of the lack of sunlight at the time, and the influence of the artic circle cutting into the top half of the state.

*Scenery in Alaska

*Despite the cold, and dark winters, on many nights one can see a Aurora Borealis in the sky.

*Also there is the “Denali National Park” where someone can see Mt. McKinley. The park was named after the mountain’s original name, Denali.

*In Alaska, there are several cruises you can take, and see many of the sea life, such as the native aquatic bird, the Puffin. Also there are many large glaciers in the state.

*Facts

* Alaska is the biggest of all states, by far. It is one-fourth of the United States' size, and is more than twice the size of Texas.

Alaska contains 572,000 square miles, Texas containing 262,000 square miles, leaving Alaska having 310,000 more than Texas.

Most of Alaska is open country, and many of the companies you see commonly don’t appear in Alaska, most companies in Alaska are only local.

Also, there are barely any main roads that go from the United States, through Canada, and into Alaska.

Even some areas in Alaska are not connected to roads, whereas you have to use a small plane to travel to some places.

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, and is a major port in Alaska. It even provides cruises.
