Moon Festivals

You know all of those celebrations you went to and the fun you had. But it’s probably not as fun as the Moon festival! It has a good point of celebrating. Moon Festival is to celebrate the end of the harvest! That is why I will talk a lot about food.

Food you Eat

Yummy! Nice and hot the way I like it. Most of the time Chinese eat salty duck, egg yolk, nuts and moon cakes when it’s Moon Festival.

Before eating you set the food on the table. You take a candle in your hand and light it on fire. Then pray for your ancestors. An ancestor is somebody that you know who’s dead. You put out the food as an offering. Then you can have your dinner.

Did you Know farmers had to grow food for over 1 billion people? Poor guys working in the hot sun. Well the food is still good.

Tradition and Beliefs

Look at those lanterns in the sky softly floating in the sky. Paper lanterns are very delicate. They rip easily. The Chinese thinks the moon glows the brightest and the biggest when it’s moon festival. The Chinese also think there is a rabbit and a girl on the moon. Quite an imagination. The rabbit is called the Jade Rabbit. There are many legends about how the girl got on the moon. There are so many legends that sometimes I forget witch one I believe. All of them are interesting but different.
