During the cretaceous geological period the region was beneath the sea.

In lodging operations beginning in 1910 and lasting a quarter of the century thousands of cypress pine read bays trees were removed the swamp.

Moved 700 miles of territory this land mass was once thought to be inhabitable .

FACTS: The Okefenokee swamp is the

largest swamp in North America.

It was presumphiously created by wave action associated with an offshore sand bar.

About 85% of the water leaving Okefenokee swamp is carried by the Suwannee river to the gulf coast to Florida.

The Okefenokee swamp is South Eastern of Georgia .
