Johnhasawiderangeof interestsoutsidehisacademicwork.Theseincludereading,history,photography,travel,conservation,globalpoliticalandenvironmentalissuesandsport.Heisverykeenonmaintainingahighlevelofpersonalfitnessandformanyyearsplayedtennisandtookpartintrekking,mountainwalkingandclimbing.HewasamemberofamountainrescueteamandagroupleaderinaconservationorganizationcalledGroundworkwhichworkedinKillarneyNationalParkinSouth-westIreland.

InadditiontoEnglish,Johnisfluentinhisnativelanguage,Gaelic,aswellashavingsomefluencyinFrench,SpanishandDutch.AtpresentheisreadingtheworksofJohnSteinbeck,andhasaparticularinterestintheworksofJamesJoyce.

Although we are certainly proud of our accomplishments to date we still have a long way to go in the development of BUUIC. I would like to share with you a special New Year’s vision that I have. Far in the future I see another special day occurring on March 28, 2023, when BUUIC will celebrate its 20th anniversary. At this time Burapha University will be ranked among the top universities in the world. BUUIC will be overflowing with students, faculty, and researchers from all over the world. Many different cultures and languages will be represented in addition

to Thai and the term “international student” will have become so common as to seem almost obsolete. The International College will be a leader in the academic world based on excellence in both teaching and research and our graduates will be highly sought after by the best international companies and organizations.

So in order to make this vision come true we wholeheartedly commit ourselves to the continuing development of BUUIC, our University, our community, our country, and our world.
