Welcome! Newly Certif ied SLBEs Continued
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., born January 15, 1929, was
a Baptist minister, civil rights activist, and advocate for
equal rights for all people regardless of race, sex, reli-
gion, or creed. He spent his life speaking out against
racial and social injustice. His activism played a major
role in the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and
the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 1964, Dr. King re-
ceived the Noble Peace Prize for his efforts to promote
equality. Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968,
however; his legacy lives on today. On November 2,
1983 then President Ronald Reagan signed the bill
making the “King Holiday” a federal holiday. Because
of his humility and service to all people, many use the
King Holiday as a day of service to honor his life and
legacy.

The annual SLBE Networking Mixer provides an oppor-
tunity for the owners of small local businesses to net-
work among their peers, CCWA Board of Directors,
and management staff to learn more about CCWA pro-
curement opportunities. The event also provides
guests a forum in a casual setting to meet and form
relationships with larger firms, preparing both entities
for future business opportunities.
CCWA hosted its third annual SLBE Networking Mixer
on November 16, 2017 at CCWA Headquarters’ Marie
Barber Community Use Room. The mixer was a HUGE
success! Twenty eight (28) small local businesses
were represented of which 10 are certified SLBEs with
CCWA. There were 50 plus attendees at the last SLBE
event of 2017.
CCWA Board Members Marie Barber and Vivian Bald-
win attended the event along with CCWA manage-
ment. Two of our large engineering firms CH2M and
Jacobs Engineering had strong representation and
Clayton County Central Services also had representa-
tives in attendance.
Catering was provided by Cates Caterer, a Clayton
County business, located right here in Morrow. A
heartfelt thank you goes out to CH2M for sponsoring
the catering for the event.
Six firms have been certified and added to the SLBE
list of certified firms as a direct result of attending the
mixer. If you missed this one we hope to see you in
2018!

Information Sessions focus
on the SLBE certification pro-
cess and how to do business
with CCWA. This year we are
taking the sessions “on the
road” to various locations
throughout the county.
We kicked off with a session
held on January 25th at the
Riverdale Town Center. The session was well attended
with more than 50 small business owners in attend-
ance. Dr. Evelyn Wynn-Dixon, Mayor of the City of
Riverdale, sent a letter from the Office of the Mayor to
welcome the attendees to the session and to the city of
Riverdale.
Each session features a “Spotlight Speaker” who is giv-
en 15 minutes during the presentation time to
“spotlight” their business.
The January Spotlight
Speaker was Ms. Renee
Rowe of CyQuest Business
