• Diverse Research Base. Over 40 research institutes are located on the mesa: the pace of discovery continues to accelerate

• Greenest Campus in Country. UCSD located in the heart of the research hub

• First Green Certificates. SDSU’s College of Extended Studies is first to offer professional certificates in the green industry

• Market Connectivity Groups. CONNECT and others provide infrastructure for young companies

• Solar. Approximately 5,000 megawatts of electricity available in San Diego County. Enough for over 3 million customers during peak usage. Another 35,000 megawatts are available through Imperial County.

• Wind. Gross potential for wind power in the San Diego region of 6,900 megawatts. Technical potential of 1,500 megawatts.

• Biofuels. One of the nation’s largest producers of biomass including urban wood wastes, agricultural wastes, forestry and landfill gas. Urban wood waste alone could support 40 to 100 megawatts of power generation.

• Geography. Proximity to the Mexican border and Imperial Valley is a strong competitive asset.
