Data & Public Health

• Statistical terminology is both vague and specific.

• It is difficult to get good resources • Because the teaching of statistics is

comparatively recent, there is little developed teaching knowledge

• Technology is forever advancing, requiring regular updating of materials and teaching approaches.

Subject of data/statistics is often met with apprehension

Page 10: Business May 28 th & 29 th, 2014 Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board Portland, OR Risky.

Data & Public Health

• Immediately applicable to life, and links in with interesting and diverse contexts.

• Studying statistics enables class discussion and debate.

• Statistics is necessary and does good.• The study of data and chance can change the

way people see the world.• Technological advances have put the power for

real statistical analysis into the hands of students.

• Because the teaching of statistics is new, individuals can make a difference in the way statistics is viewed and taught.

However, data/statistics is important and can be fun if approached with the right

mindset
