Hints
• It is best-practice to save documents often and this is no exception. We would recommend saving the report after each step.
• Use a limited date range when building the report to reduce the report run times during your testing process.
• We recommend that you do not use dynamic prompts (drop-down options) within your report, as the datamart data structures do not currently support a quick response to these queries. Instead, we recommend using either static or simple filters.
Available Sample Reports In order to facilitate the learning process for new Report Creators, LeanLogistics has provided a number of sample reports that cover a range of functionality in the Business Intelligence (BI) Reporting Tool. Below is a list of the available sample reports, the datamart to which they reference and notes regarding their purpose: Report Name Datamart Description Notes
Acceptance percentage is defined as: number of winning tenders / total loads Carriers under 80% Acceptance highlighted in red
2. SAMPLE_Carrier Performance
Load Performance and Costing
Shows on-time percentage for Pick (Appt. vs. Actual), Drop (Appt. vs. Actual), Drop (Plan vs. Actual) and Load Close (Plan vs. Load Close Date)
Pick, Drop and RDD On-time %: Carrier is considered late if the Pick Actual date/time is greater than 30 minutes from the Pick Appointment date/time Load Close On-time %: Carrier is considered late if the Load Close date/time is greater than 72 hours from the Last Drop Plan date/time Only includes Completed loads Only includes loads where the Drop Appointment and Actual are not missing
3. SAMPLE_Core Metrics by Carrier
Load Performance and Costing
Shows load count, average weight, average volume, average cost (payable) by Carrier
Only includes Active and Completed loads Tender Date in previous month
4a. SAMPLE_Load Count by Mode (Pie Chart)
Load Performance and Costing
YTD load count by mode YTD by Tender Date
4b. SAMPLE_Load Count by Mode (Line Chart)
Load Performance and Costing
YTD load count by mode YTD by Tender Date
5. SAMPLE_Core Metrics by Location
Load Performance and Costing
Shows weight and volume by mode for the top ten locations by number of loads
Only includes Completed loads Loads with a first pick calculated date greater than 01/01/2010
6. SAMPLE_Top Carriers by Volume
Load Performance and Costing
Shows weight and total distance for the top ten carriers by number of loads
Only includes Completed loads Loads with a first pick calculated date greater than 01/01/2010
Using Pre-Defined Date Values Often, you will want to report against relative dates - especially if your report will be running automatically after-hours, or being displayed in a dashboard. To simplify this, LeanLogistics has provided a set of pre-defined date variables for you to use within your reports. The values of these should be self-explanatory. Day Month (Sunday - Saturday) &DTE_LAST_MONTH_END &DTE_TOMORROW &DTE_LAST_MONTH_START &DTE_YESTERDAY &DTE_THIS_MONTH_END
Using Variables in a Report Variables can be used when creating an Advanced Filter (found under the Data menu) within InfoAssist - as displayed below.
To use the variable, you will create a prompted filter, and choose the prompt type “Parameter” and parameter type of “Simple”; in the ‘Name’ field enter the variable name, preceded by “&” character. In the example above, we are creating a date range, where Tender Date is greater than or equal to &DTE_LAST_MONTH_START, and where Tender Date is less than or equal to &DTE_LAST_MONTH_END. The ‘Description’ field may contain any text, but it must NOT contain the leading “&” character, or you will receive an error when running the report. We recommend simply using the same value as the ‘Name’ field (without the “&” character). Note that you can mix and match these variables. For example, this same report could have had Tender Date greater or than equal to &DTE_LAST_MONTH_START and less than or equal to &DTE_TODAY.
Define and Compute Fields The ability to create and use user-defined fields/functions is one of the more powerful features of WebFocus. There are two types of user-defined fields:
• DEFINE: A define function is applied to each row of data as it is retrieved from the database • COMPUTE: A compute function is applied after the entire result-set has been retrieved from the
database. Typically these are functions that are done using aggregates of the data.
Examples of Define and Compute Fields The following DEFINE/COMPUTE examples are based off of the Load Performance and Costing Datamart, but may be used with other datamarts as well. Purpose Function
Type Data Type/Format Returned
Definition
Compare two dates to the minute, and if the difference is greater than a threshold, then return a value of 1, indicating that this load is late.
DEFINE I1 (Integer of length 1)
IF HDIFF ( <date1> , <date2> , 'MINUTE' , 'D6' ) GT <threshold> THEN 1 ELSE 0
Calculate an on-time percentage, based upon the aggregated value of IsLate.
COMPUTE D12.2% (Decimal of length 12, with 2 places after the decimal. Append a % at the end of the number)
Expectations InfoAssist is a sophisticated Web Browser-based application that requires greater processing power and available memory is recommended to ensure efficient use of the tool. As a Web Browser-based tool, it is subject to the idiosyncrasies of individual browsers, and may from time-to-time not respond to user interaction as expected (some examples are listed below). 1. Clicking Menus and Objects
a. If you want to use the right-click options on a field, make sure you left-click on the field first to select it.
b. If you are right-clicking to remove a field, you may need to mouse to the bottom of the menu to see. 2. Delete Option
a. When selecting fields from the Data Pane, your mouse pointer may point at the item below. Please ensure that you are interacting with the proper row.
3. Other Potential Error Messages a. If you do not create a non-prompted filter on one of the selected datamart's indexed fields, you will see
an "Unknown Error" message appear in the report canvas (when using the interactive view).
Supported Web Browsers The following Web Browsers are accepted when using InfoAssist: • Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6 (SP3), 7 and 8 • Mozilla Firefox Version 3.5 and 3.6
Frequently Asked Questions Will I be able to combine data from different datamarts together with this new tool? Due to the complexities of properly combining datamarts to ensure acceptable performance, this capability will not be available; however the new tool does allow customers to create compound document reports that contain information from multiple datamarts in different sections of the report. LeanLogistics is committed to closely working with customers to identify and publish new combinations of data to satisfy customer needs. In this way, we can provide the information required, as well as maintain an acceptable level of performance. Will I still have access to the old ad hoc tool? Yes. During the rollout and conversion process, the ad hoc tool will be available. Once the rollout has been completed, the ad hoc tool will be deprecated – this is why we have designed the rollout process to include time to complete the conversion of your key ad hoc reports.
If I have a question who do I contact after my rollout? After your rollout week is complete please, questions on how to use the tool should be submitted via the standard LeanLogistics Customer Support process: 1. Customer Support Home Page - Follow the steps below for the preferred and quickest method of
submitting a request for help: a. Log in to the LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS® Application from the login page
(http://apps.leanlogistics.com) then go to Menu Path: Help/Customer Support b. On the Customer Support Home Page (pop-up window), click “Request Support Help” and fill-in the
required information 2. Email - Send an email to [email protected] with the following information:
a. Username b. Contact Information c. Question or Problem
Will LeanLogistics be able to assist me with creating reports? Yes. During your rollout week, you will have access to a resource to help you recreate what reports you currently use in the ad hoc tool. After the rollout week, if you have a technical question on how to use the tool please contact our Customer Support. If you need assistance in defining an overall reporting strategy and creating any associated reports, Client Services will work with you to scope your requests and identify the related development costs.
