The Osnabrück-Emsland-Grafschaft Bentheim region lies in Northwestern Germany, and for many years has been one of the country’s areas enjoying the strongest economic growth. Above all, it is exports which drive this important growth. The unemployment rate, for example, is only 3.2 percent and thus stands – in comparison to the overall German average (4.9 %) – at an extraordinarily low level.

While the region is characterized by great industrial diversity, the food industry, vehicle manufacture and mechanical engineering, and the metals industries are particularly strongly represented. In addition, the logistics sector and increasingly, the services sector are drivers of economic development. The region also boasts a training quota which is well above average. In June 2018, about five percent of all regional employees were involved in dual vocational training in the wide variety of professions which make Germany the envy of much of the world: the highest training rate in the entire country.

The administrative district (Landkreis) of Osnabrück is situated in the southwest of lower Saxony. It is almost as big as the Saarland. With its 34 towns and villages surrounding the city of Osnabrück, the Landkreis is a strong economic region and the home to many small and medium enterprises (SME) or even big players of the so called Bio-Economy. This includes agricultural engineering companies as well as the food producing industry.

Landkreis Osnabrück is also a hotspot in tourism, known for the rich landmarks of history. Here the legendary Varus-battlefield can be found. The Roman military general was defeated by the Germanic prince Arminius in 9 A.D. Also a lot of historic buildings and many castles invite visitors to discover the past.

A special contribution to the development of a German-Polish friendship is the partnership between Landkreis Osnabrück and the Olsztyn district in the North-East of Poland. This relationship exists since 1999 and has led to many contacts between citizens, governance, science and enterprises in both countries.

The chamber of Commerce and Industry (Industrie- und Handelskammer, IHK) of Osnabrück - Emsland - Grafschaft Bentheim represents the interests of around 60,000 member companies. It is a corporation governed by public law and carries out functions for the public sector, such as the administration of examination within the dual training system or the issuing of foreign trade documents. The IHK is also available to its member companies for advisement in many local, regional and transregional matters.

In all, more than 300 companies from the IHK district are active in Poland. Our IHK, in cooperation with the administrative district (Landkreis) of Osnabrück, wishes to use this delegation trip to offer regional companies the opportunity to develop and expand their business contacts in Poland.
